Showtime has released a new trailer and the official poster for the upcoming drama series City on a Hill. Created and executive produced by Chuck MacLean (Boston Strangler) with Tom Fantana (Homicide: Life on the Streets) serving as showrunner, the series takes place in early 1990s Boston and revolves around the relationship between an assistant district attorney driving change (Aldis Hodge) and a corrupt, veteran FBI agent (Kevin Bacon). In order ot make any kind of progress, the two must work together and navigate the murky, violent waters of the Boston criminal underworld.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon serve as executive producers on the series, and indeed it looks like something of a throwback to Homicide: Life on the Streets or The Wire, rather than some flashy prestige drama series. And I like that. Too often we’re inundated with shows that are under some pretense of being a 10-hour movie, but it very much feels like City on a Hill is being crafted as a bona fide, ensemble-driven TV series.

Check out the new City on a Hill trailer below. The show also stars Jonathan Tucker, Lauren E. Banks, Mark O’Brien, Amanda Clayton, Jere Shea, Kevin Chapman, and Jill Hennessey. The 10-episode first season of City on a Hill debuts on Showtime starting June 16th.

Here’s the official synopsis for City on a Hill:

The series is set in early 1990s Boston, rife with violent criminals emboldened by local law enforcement agencies in which corruption and racism was the norm. In this fictional account, driving change is assistant district attorney Decourcy Ward (Hodge), who comes from Brooklyn and forms an unlikely alliance with a corrupt yet venerated FBI veteran, Jackie Rohr (Bacon). Together, they take on a family of armored car robbers from Charlestown in a case that grows to involve, and ultimately subvert, the entire criminal justice system of Boston.
