Oscar-nominated actress Doris Day hasn't been seen on the big screen in 47 years, but if a new rumor turns out to be true, she may just come out of retirement for director Clint Eastwood. At 91 years of age, Day is reportedly considering a role in Eastwood's next picture, as long as a couple of conditions are met: the film has to be shot in her home of Carmel Valley, California, and a cut of the movie's profits will go to her animal welfare charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation.

The Guardian reports that Eastwood has been in talks with Day, who just so happens to be his neighbor, and that she is in negotiations to star in her first feature film role since the 1968 romantic comedy, unfortunately titled With Six You Get Egg Roll. The report also cites German tabloid Bild who say that Eastwood presented her with a script on one of his recent visits.

Day's role in the film hasn't been revealed just yet as it's not even clear just which of Eastwood's pictures she'd be starring in. Next up for the director, he has an adaptation of Captain Chesley Sullenberger's heroic piloting tale with Tom Hanks in talks to play the lead role. Eastwood has also been rumored to be directing a story centering on the suspected but innocent perpetrator of the Atlanta Olympics bombing, Richard Jewell, which has Jonah Hill attached to star; Hill and Leonardo DiCaprio developed the project from Marie Brenner’s 1997 Vanity Fair article “The Ballad of Richard Jewell.”

It would certainly be lovely to see Day back on the big screen, especially with the 85-year-old Eastwood -- a relative spring chicken -- behind the camera. He's already got a pair of Best Director Oscars under his belt, but Day's lone Oscar nomination came for the 1959 film, Pillow Talk. Maybe a team-up of Eastwood and Day could earn her another awards nod, much like June Squibb's performance in Nebraska. Time will tell.

Update: Time has told. According to Deadline, Day's publicity team has quashed the rumors with the following statement:

While Doris always appreciates hearing from her fans, the rumors about her returning to the big screen are not true. She adores her longtime friend Clint Eastwood, but Doris’ recent and current focus remains on her Doris Day Animal Foundation, which continues to help animals and the people who love them.
