‘Jurassic World’ Director Colin Trevorrow Starts Production on ‘The Book of Henry’

     October 6, 2015

Sandwiched between two mega franchise movies in Jurassic World and Star Wars: Episode IX, director Colin Trevorrow has started production on the drama The Book of Henry. Little has been revealed about the plot, but according to a new press release announcing the start of filming, it tells the story of a single mother raising two boys, one of whom is a genius. Trevorrow directs the picture from an original screenplay by acclaimed and bestselling crime novelist, Gregg Hurwitz.

SSN Insider has a more extensive logline for The Book of Henry, as follows:

A precocious little boy, being raised by his single mother and serving as a surrogate father to his younger brother, develops feelings for the girl next door and, to protect her from ongoing harm at the hands of her father, plots a murder.

That plot certainly sounds a bit more in line with Hurwitz’s calling card, though it’s understandable why Focus Features might want to play down this angle for the moment. The site also notes that Thea Sharrock (The Hollow Crown) was previously attached to direct, but offers up no further explanation as to how Trevorrow came to occupy the director’s chair.

The cast of The Book of Henry includes two-time Academy Award nominee Naomi Watts starring alongside young actors Jacob Tremblay (Room) and Jaden Lieberher (St. Vincent). The supporting cast includes Dean Norris (Breaking Bad), Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy), Emmy Award-winner Sarah Silverman, Maddie Ziegler, and Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live). Academy Award-nominee John Schwartzman (Jurassic World, Saving Mr. Banks) is director of photography on The Book of Henry.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes tweet from Trevorrow featuring cast members Tremblay, Lieberher, and Ziegler from The Book of Henry:
