Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for the upcoming drama Collateral Beauty. Written by Allan Loeb (Rock of Ages) and directed by David Frankel (The Big Year), the film stars Will Smith as a successful New York advertising executive who suffers a personal tragedy and all but retreats from his daily life. His concerned friends try to bring him back, while he seeks answers by writing letters to Love, Time, and Death—only to receive responses in the form of personal encounters.

This new trailer isn’t too much different from the first, and I continue to be surprised at just how impressive this cast is. The story itself seems very cloying and I’m pretty sure I’ve figured out the “twist”—which, if true, will definitely turn me off this whole movie. But the project began promisingly enough, with Me and Earl and the Dying Girl filmmaker Alfonso Gomez-Rejon initially set to direct before bowing out at the last minute over creative differences.

That said, Frankel has a pretty robust track record. The Devil Wears Prada, Marley & Me, and Hope Springs all have their cheesy moments, but on the whole are pleasant, enjoyable films. While Collateral Beauty doesn’t seem to be much of an awards player, it could be a pretty big family hit over the holiday movie season.

Take a look at the new Collateral Beauty trailer below. The film also stars Helen Mirren, Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet, Edward Norton, Naomie Harris and Michael Peña. Collateral Beauty opens in theaters on December 16th.

Here's the official synopsis for Collateral Beauty:

When a successful New York advertising executive suffers a great tragedy he retreats from life.  While his concerned friends try desperately to reconnect with him, he seeks answers from the universe by writing letters to Love, Time and Death.  But it’s not until his notes bring unexpected personal responses that he begins to understand how these constants interlock in a life fully lived, and how even the deepest loss can reveal moments of meaning and beauty.
