It’s Monday which means our weekly box office report brought to you by our friends at AMC Theatres. For the second time this year, the all time opening weekend box office record has been broken. Earlier this year Jurassic World beat out the first Avengers movie by making $208 million dollars. Now, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has beaten that by $30 million dollars taking in just over $238 million dollars. Coming in a distant second place is the new Alvin and the Chipmunks movie making $14.4 million dollars. In third spot is the new Tina Fey, Amy Pohler comedy Sisters which made $13.4 million dollars. In 4th spot is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, being knocked out of the number 1 spot for the first time in 5 weeks and making an additional $5.6 million and a worldwide total of $595 million dollars. And rounding out the top 5 is the 7th film in the Rocky franchise,Creed making just over $5 million.
The highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is now just 3 months away and fans are more anxious than ever to find out as many details about the film as possible. This weekend a report began to circulate around the web that a German theatre company had revealed the runtime for the Superhero team up movie. According to the reports Batman v Superman will come in at 2 hours and 31 minutes, making it 8 minutes longer than the previous film in the series, Man of Steel.
OPENING THIS WEEK (Brought to you by AMC Theatres)
First up is Concussion. While conducting an autopsy on former NFL football player Mike Webster, forensic pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu (played by Will Smith) discovers neurological deterioration that is similar to Alzheimer's disease. Omalu publishes his findings in a medical journal. As other athletes face the same diagnosis, the crusading doctor embarks on a mission to raise public awareness about the dangers of football-related head trauma.
Next is Will Farrell / Mark Wahlberg comedy Daddy’s Home. Brad is a kindhearted radio executive who wants to be the best possible stepfather to his wife's two children. When her freewheeling ex-husband Dusty breezes back into town, Brad's feeling of insecurity quickly develops into an inferiority complex. As Dusty demonstrates his flair for athletics, home repair and bad-boy charisma, Brad finds himself in a no-holds-barred battle to one-up his rival and win the approval of his family.
Next is the Jennifer Lawrence film Joy. A story of a family across four generations, centered on the girl who becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right. Facing betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence and the scars of love, Joy becomes a true boss of family and enterprise in a world of unforgiving commerce. Allies become adversaries and adversaries become allies, both inside and outside the family, as Joy's inner life and fierce imagination carry her through the storm she faces.
And finally the remake of the Keanu Reeves / Patrick Swayze film Point Break. Thrill-seeking criminals perform a series of daredevil stunts to steal money and gems, only to give it away to the poor and less fortunate. Training for a job with the FBI, young recruit Johnny Utah suspects that only extreme athletes could pull off these heists. Utilizing his own special skills, Utah infiltrates the gang of thieves after befriending their charismatic leader, Bodhi. As Johnny experiences the rush of their lifestyle, his superiors fear that his loyalties are being tested.

Dan writes: Hey guys I love all the shows and I just had a quick question. Now that we've seen Episode VII, who do you think Del Toro will play in Episode VIII? Based on his interview with ET back in September, I'm guessing that he'll play a bounty hunter of some sort. Who do you guys think he'll play?

Jessica Simms writes: Hey Movie Talk crew! Ok, first of all I have to tell you I haven’t seen The Force Awakens yet. My theatre is completely sold out all the time so I’m hoping to see it tomorrow. So without giving anything away I was wondering about shrinking the universe. John has said a couple of times that he doesn’t like it when Star Wars shrinks the universe, but he also seems to like the idea of Snoke being Darth Plagueis. Wouldn’t that be shrinking the universe too? Love to hear your thoughts!
