Zombieland was one of this year's breakout hits and so Sony is naturally hungry for a sequel.  In a recent interview, director Ruben Fleischer says that he's ready to pick up the zombie-killing rule book again and go to town slaughtering the undead.  Oh, but he does have one more rule he'd like to add: "A sequel to a massively successful comedy horror film starring Woody Harrelson must be in 3D."

Hit the jump for why Fleischer wants to take his flesh-eaters to the next dimension as well as other details on the highly-anticipated sequel.

[Spoilers ahead for those who haven't seen Zombieland] Moviehole reports that Fleischer is down for a sequel along with original cast members Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin.  Fleischer says that the genre really lends itself to 3D and with the box office success of My Bloody Valentine 3D and The Final Destination, audiences seem to agree.  While I'm not as high on the 3D bandwagon as others, I will say that a 3D sequel would feel like the natural progression of the first film's tone and genre self-recognition.  As for the setting, Woody Harrelson recently speculated that he would love to see the sequel go some place entirely different like Broadway or Paris.  I say why not both and then some?  Embrace the sequel mantra or "bigger is better" and let's call the movie "Zombieworld"!

However, "Zombieworld" will have to wait as Fleischer says it will be a few years before it's time to re-nut up or shut up.  In the meantime, he would like to do a romantic comedy.  I was about to respond "Why not do both?" but then I remembered that Edgar Wright already made Shaun of the Dead and there's no way to get out from under that shadow.
