The first trailer for Woody Allen's first series, Crisis in Six Scenes, has arrived, and well, it looks very similar to a Woody Allen movie for the most part. The series is set in New York during the Vietnam War and the central motif seems to be the rebellion against the establishment. In a not-surprising act of reflection, one of the first things we hear Allen say is that he's creating a TV show, to which his barber (Max Casella) essentially scoffs at, and there's a connection to rebellion in this too. Allen seems to be asking whether or not it's worth attempting to change, or even considering such things, at his age.

Of course, this is just first impressions, but there already looks to be plenty of heady ideas being expressed in comedic terms here. And by casting Miley Cyrus as a kind of flower child who sells pot to squares and eats Allen's naval oranges, the series also reverberates with the idea of modern-day "millennials" are rebelling against what many older people would say is good and decent. There's also more than a few snappy lines from comedy legend Elaine May, who plays Allen's character's wife, and the trailer ends with a familiar nod to Allen's self-doubt, saying that if he's wrong about his atheism "we're in big trouble." The series debuts on Amazon on September 30th, and it honestly can't get here soon enough for me at this point.
