If you’re wondering why anyone would bother with a Daddy’s Home sequel, then you’ll probably be surprised to learn that the film brought in $240 million worldwide. That’s a tidy profit for Paramount for a film that probably didn’t cost too much to make, so it’s not surprising that they’re seizing on making a sequel.

Deadline reports that Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg are set to reprise their roles as the mismatched step-dad and dad, respectively, who in the first film go to war for the affection of two children. It’s not a bad movie, and while it’s pretty forgettable, it’s harmless fun. The movie also concludes with a great cameo, and I really hope they’re able to get this actor back for Daddy’s Home 2. There’s currently no word if the supporting cast, which included Hannibal Buress, Linda Cardellini and Thomas Haden Church, will return alongside Ferrell and Wahlberg.

However, plot details on the sequel are currently under wraps, although I doubt they’re anything earth-shattering. It will probably be a sweet, slightly raunchy comedy that keeps in line with the successful original. Sean Anders and John Morris are also returning to write the script and Anders will direct.
