From first announcement to the casting of Greta Gerwig, we’ve been happy to track the progress of Damsels in Distress, the first film from writer/director Whit Stillman in over a decade. This writer is pleased as punch to pass along the latest news that Adam Brody has joined the cast. Brody is every bit the evolutionary Chris Eigman, who has starred in each of Stillman’s three features (Metropolitan, The Last Days of Disco, Barcelona) thus far. (Fingers crossed there’s a role earmarked for Eigman in Damsels).

THR provides a brief outline:
The movie revolves around a group of style-obsessed college girls who take in a new student (Gerwig) and teach her their misguided ways of helping people at their grungy university, sort of Mean Girls filtered through the lens of the filmmaker behind such urbane indie dramas as Barcelona, Metropolitan and Disco.
The crux of the story is focused on the relationship between Gerwig’s character and a suitor (Brody), whom the girls are taken with but have doubts over his intentions.
Damsels in Distress is currently filming in New York. Adam Brody will next be seen in the ensemble dramedy The Oranges opposite Hugh Laurie, Catherine Keener, and Leighton Meester, followed by the horror sequel Scream 4 (in theaters April 15, 2011). Gerwig’s next film pits the actress against Russell Brand in a remake of the 1981 comedy Arthur.
