In the second major piece of casting for Marvel's Daredevil season two, French actress Elodie Yung (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) is set to play the popular antihero antihero Elektra Natchios, trained assassin and sometimes paramour of Matt Murdoch (Charlie Cox). In their official release, Marvel describes Elektra as "a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle."

The series made a vague reference to Elektra in the first season when Foggy (Elden Henson) recalled Matt's "smokin' hot" Greek girlfriend from college. Elektra - Daredevil's sometimes enemy, sometimes ally - was created by Frank Miller and first debuted in Daredevil No. 168 (1981).

Yung fills a critical role for the second season, joining Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher. Recent rumors indicate that The Punisher will act as the primary antagonist of Daredevil season two, and it's likely that Elektra will act as a sort of middle ground between the at-odds heroes. Or perhaps Elektra will be united with Castle in his violent methods of weeding out Hell's Kitchens most villainous criminals. In any case, this leaves only one major casting rumor on the table - Bullseye, exactly the kind of baddie Elektra and The Punisher would be more than happy to take out.

Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb commented,

“After a worldwide search,  we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity...Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”

Daredevil kicked off filming for season two this week, so I'd expect to hear a lot more on the casting front in the near future...including perhaps Bullseye. The series returns to Netlfix in 2016 with new showrunners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez. Until then, you can catch up on all things Daredevil here, or check out my video compilation of the best season one fight scenes here.

What do you guys think? Does Yung fit the bill of what you had in mind? Sound off in the comments.
