One of the biggest surprises to come out of Netflix's fantastic Daredevil series has been Vincent D'Onofrio's turn as Marvel villain Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin. The character served at the center of the conflict in the show's first outing, clashing with Charlie Cox's title character in a series of physical fights and verbal sparring scenes that felt like they were pulled right from the comic books. His incarceration by season's end concluded the character's personal and criminal arc in a wholly satisfying manner.

However, the second season relegated the Kingpin to the penitentiary, only letting him loose in a few spare scenes opposite Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle/Punisher. While the scenes were certainly memorable, they left us wanting more, especially as it was teased by the second episode's end that Fisk may be on to Daredevil's alter ego and that of his companions. So it's with optimism that we bring you the news that D'Onofrio will almost certainly return for another round as the Kingpin.

In speaking with LRM Online, D'Onofrio had the following to say:

"Marvel, the company, and especially Jeff Loeb, who runs Marvel Television, he's a clever dude. All those people over there are pretty clever and they love talent. There's no giant commitment for me at Daredevil. Like I didn't have to sign my life away at all. When Jeff tells me there's something coming up and if I'm available, I'll be there. And because it's written so well, I'm going to show up. I'm going to do everything I can because the writing is so good. And then there's a company like Netflix and they're not pressuring you either. They just want good material, good content. They give you money to make good content, so they're not pressuring actors to sign their life away either.... I think that there's this common ground where they say, 'Look, if the material is good are you going to show up?' and I said,  'Definitely'."

D'Onofrio stopped just short of confirming his return but said the following about when that might happen:

"That I can't answer. I do know, but I can't answer... so take that how you will. Jeff and Charlie (Cox) and Netflix love Kingpin, and so, Kingpin is good for Marvel's television stuff and I think they agree."
