Slytherins, unite! The Dark Arts are coming to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in a big way. It was announced today that Universal will be unveiling a brand new projection experience called “Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle” at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood later this year.

This unique experience will utilize the technology that brings the “Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle” to life, as well as the terrific holiday show “The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle” they put on during the winter months. This time around, a mesmerizing display of light, music and special effects will unleash the darkest creatures and villains on the Hogwarts castle, including Dementors, Death Eaters, Aragog, Mountain Trolls, and even Lord Voldemort himself.

The light show will be accompanied by an exclusive musical arrangement that will encompass guests via a surround sound environment, based on the original scores composed for the films by John Williams. This new music was conducted by William Ross and recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra.

The “Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle” will debut at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood and run nightly from April 13-28, then return from May 25-27. It will debut at Universal Orlando Resort sometime later this year.

This comes on the heels of the news that the big new attraction at Orlando’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a highly themed coaster called Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. It’s set to open on June 13th, so I would imagine that Universal Orlando’s “Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle” would be ready in time for that opening. Or perhaps they’re saving it for the fall.

Regardless, this sounds really cool. You can check out some concept art below, and if you’re planning a visit to Universal Orlando Resort, check out my rundown of the must-do’s at the Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley attractions.
