While I knew who Dave Bautista was before Guardians of the Galaxy, I’ll admit his performance surprised me. Not only did he kick an insane amount of ass in James Gunn’s brilliant Marvel film, he was able to show a range of emotional depth that I wasn’t expecting. So when Sony announced he would be playing a role in director Sam Mendes' new James Bond film Spectre, arriving in theaters November 6th, I was very happy. After all, a movie is only as good as its antagonist, and while we’re not exactly sure who Mr. Hinx (Bautista) is in relation to James Bond (Daniel Craig), we do know they will fight and I can’t wait to see it.

However, when I got to visit the set of Spectre earlier this year when the movie was filming in Mexico City, Dave Bautista was guarded about saying too much. Since I knew going in he was only going to be able say a little bit, I decided to ask him about the casting process, working with Sam Mendes, who is Mr. Hinx, what it was like on set compared to Guardians of the Galaxy, and more.

Finally, if you were nervous the upcoming James Bond film would somehow disappoint, everything I saw and learned during my set visit makes me extremely confident that the sequel will be something special. For more on the film, here’s a description of the awesome-sounding opening chase sequence that will make up between 12 and 15 minutes of screen time!

Here’s what Dave Bautista had to say:

-

Dave Bautista

  • Where and when did he find out he’d be in Spectre?
  • Did Sam Mendes ask him to watch or do anything prior to filming?
  • Says Mendes told him Mr. Hinx is an intelligent badass.
  • What did he film first day on set?
  • What can he say about the character and is it fun being so secretive?
  • Compares making Guardians of the Galaxy to Spectre and the vibe on set.
