Now that The CW's full slate of superhero TV has premiered for this jam-packed fall season, we're getting a good idea as to how all of these various superheroes will mesh together. The seasons are off to a strong start, especially after having shaken things up in their previous seasons by either moving networks, creating time paradoxes, dismantling a veteran crime-fighting team, or usurping the folks who control all events across time. The CW doesn't screw around. And as you can see below, the network has very big things in store for this coming season across the board.

Here's a look at today's round-up of DC TV superhero series news in brief:

  • Supergirl - Star Mehcad Brooks, who plays James Olsen on the superhero series opposite Melissa Benoist's title character and newcomer Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, will get a heroic moniker of his own! He'll star as Guardian, a DC Comics character created by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon who's been around in one version or another since 1942. Check out Brooks' look below!
  • Vixen - Not to be left out in the superhero series discussion is this excellent, bite-sized animated series that features Megalyn Echikunwoke voicing the title character. This six-episode second season premiered just last night and will release new episodes each Friday as we follow along with the saga of Mari McCabe as she confronts her past and attempts to embrace her newfound powers. Oh, and there might just be some familiar faces who pop up along the way!
  • The Flash / Arrow / Legends of Tomorrow - While each of these shows is off to a solid start to their own seasons, they'll crossover with Supergirl this November for an epic event that's unlike anything The CW--and possibly any other network--has done before. We have some new details about this crossover and how it connects to the DC Comics, which you can read below.

Here's what executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had to say about the character's debut:

“These next few episodes are going to make [James] realize that being a photographer is not enough for him, so he’s going to go on a pretty exciting career trajectory that we’re really pumped by. James is going to decide that he can no longer sit back and be a sidekick, so he’s going to decide to become a vigilante.

“He’s going to become Guardian, complete with the shield, which is going to cause a massive problem in his relationship with Kara because he has decided not to tell her. Now there’s this new masked vigilante, and she has her own feelings about vigilantes, and it becomes a push and pull about who gets to decide who gets to be a hero?”

So while Guardian won't be on the up and up with Supergirl, he will have some very human assistance on the ground:

“He’s recruited Winn to help him. The two of them are doing this together, and Winn and James together—it’s comedy gold. Watching Winn, as he takes his job at the DEO, but then he’s lying to everybody about how he’s spending his nights—because he’s going out with James—and how he walks in exhausted or walks in with a black eye and says he walked into a door. It’s the fun and excitement of building these first 10 episodes.”

Superhero Crossover Event Will Bring "Invasion!" Storyline to Life

Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim spoke to EW about the upcoming and highly anticipated crossover event among his shows, plus Supergirl and The Flash. We knew that our favorite superheroes would be teaming up to take on The Dominators, but we weren't sure just how closely the story would hew to the "Invasion!" arc from the pages of DC Comics. Until now:

“I will say that their goal is very closely related to what was established in the comics, and it does have to do with metahumans. It’s very, very faithful to the comics.”

This upcoming crossover is "massively different" from ones that have come before and, in Guggenheim's words, is the network's "most ambitious":

"The first crossover we did was two separate storylines that had a slight tangential connection to each other. Then last year, the crossover we did was a two-parter that told one complete story with a beginning, middle, and end across Flash and Arrow, but it also had the work of setting up Legends of Tomorrow.

“This year, we’re doing by far the most ambitious crossover we’ve ever done. It’s basically a huge three-part story that also brings in Supergirl, so it’s crossing over all four shows. It’s telling one big epic movie of a story. It’s not setting up any other spin-offs, it’s just big, bombastic, huge action. There’s also some really poignant character moments. There’s a lot of plot lines, particularly I would say in Flash and Legends, that come to fruition in the crossover. It’s by far the most ambitious thing we’ve ever attempted. I want to say it’s by far one of the most ambitious things anyone in network television has ever attempted. It’s completely insane.”

Look for the epic crossover event this November!
