In the lead up to the new Deadpool trailer (which debuts on Christmas), 20th Century Fox has released the Deadpool IMAX poster online as part of their “12 Days of Deadpool” marketing campaign. While it may seem like a bit of overkill, keep in mind that saturation may be the way to go with this character, who’s pretty much an unknown. They’re trying to get away from X-Men Origins: Wolverine and it’s not like they can point to the success of other R-rated superhero movies. They’re going out into uncharted territory, and they’re doing it with a big smile. While this poster doesn’t blow me away, it keeps the playful tone, and even includes Stan Lee for some reason (Deadpool was created by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld, not Lee).
Check out the Deadpool IMAX Poster below along with a brief promo that uses chimichangas (Deadpool’s favorite food) to illustrate why you should see the movie in IMAX. Deadpool opens February 12, 2016, and also stars Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle/Copycat, Andre Tricotruex as Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, and Ed Skrein as Ajax.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
