Earlier this year, when director Tim Miller’s Deadpool movie was filming in Vancouver, I got to visit the set with a few other reporters. As a big fan of Rob Liefeld’s creation, I always viewed Deadpool as a missed opportunity at Fox. Sure they got the casting right with Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but everything else was completely wrong. Deadpool needed to break the fourth wall, be irreverent, borderline psychotic, and never play it safe. The version of Deadpool that every comic book fan wanted to see was impossible in a PG-13 movie.

Which is why I am so excited for Miller’s Deadpool movie. As most of you know, he got to make an R-rated version of Deadpool and after seeing the film get made on set and talking with the cast and filmmakers, I can promise you it’s the version of Deadpool we’ve all been waiting for. Not only is it going to accurately bring the comic book character to life, it’s going to remind studios that comic book movies can be successful outside of the PG-13 rating. I really believe Deadpool is going to be a big hit for Fox and the start of a great new franchise for the studio.

With my set visit embargo lifting today, Fox has provided us with two new images from the film to share with our readers. The first one features Gina Carano (Angel Dust) and Ed Skrein (Ajax) looking over Ryan Reynolds before his surgery, and the second image features director Tim Miller and Reynolds in costume as Deadpool in a junkyard talking about a scene.

Check out both images below and start counting down the days till the film hits theaters on February 12, 2016. It’s going to be great.
