A couple of curious casting developments have arisen.  Briefly:

• Silicon Valley standout T.J. Miller and Transporter Legacy star Ed Skrein are in early talks to join the cast of the Deadpool movie.
• Elle Fanning has been set to lead the next film from Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn, a female-driven horror pic called The Neon Demon.

Per The Wrap, actors T.J. Miller and Ed Skrein are in early talks to be the first supporting cast members added to Fox’s Deadpool movie.  The comic book adaptation has been in development for years but is now finally moving forward, on track for a February 12, 2016 release.  Ryan Reynolds is still set to star as the wise-crackin’ antihero and VFX veteran Tim Miller is also still onboard to direct, and it appears that the casting process has begun in earnest.  T.J. Miller has reportedly been offered a role that “serves as an additional comic voice to compliment Deadpool”, which seems like a fine fit given Miller’s scene-stealing work in the HBO comedy series Silicon Valley.  Not to mention the fact that he’s the only good thing about Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Skrein’s talks are apparently further along, and The Wrap notes that it’s “possible” he may be in line to play the film’s villain.  Plot details are unclear at this point, but Tim Miller will still be working from the well-regarded script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

In other exciting news, The Wrap reports that young actress Elle Fanning is in talks to star in the next film from Drive and Only God Forgives director Nicolas Winding Refn.  She is in line to play an aspiring model who is “caught in a world of beauty and demise” in Refn’s The Neon Demon, which will be his next film.  Described as a female-driven horror film, it’s possible that this is the a retitled/retooled version of I Walk With the Dead, which Refn was planning to direct with Carey Mulligan in the lead.

Fanning’s been doing excellent work as of late, most recently appearing in Maleficent and the indies Low Down and Young Ones.  She’s poised to star alongside Ben Affleck in his next directorial effort, Live By Night, and she recently wrapped a role opposite Bryan Cranston in Trumbo.
