Written and directed by Justin Simien, the 2014 crowd-funded film Dear White People just landed a big-time contract for the small screen. Netflix has offered up a straight-to-series order for 10 thirty-minute episodes based on the lives of students of color at a mostly White Ivy League university. THR reports that Simien will write the series and direct the premiere with Devon Shepard (House of LiesWeeds), Stephanie Allain Bray (Dear White People) and Julia Lebedev (Dear White People) acting as executive producers. Production is expected to begin this year with an eye to debut in early 2017. Dear White People the movie starred Tyler James Williams, Tessa Thompson, Teyonah Parris, Brandon P. Bell, Kyle Gallner,Malcolm Barrett, Brittany Curran, Marque Richardson, and Dennis Haysbert, but it's currently unclear whether or not any of the cast will reprise their roles in the series.
