That sound you hear is men in their mid thirties squealing with delight as ‘80s pop stars Tiffany and Debbie Gibson are set to do battle in an upcoming Syfy original movie.

The film, Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, will feature Gibson (best known for songs such as "Electric Youth" and "Lost in Your Eyes") as a “fanatical animal-rights activist who frees illegally imported exotic snakes from pet stores” and Tiffany (best known for the cover “I Think We’re Alone Now") as “an overzealous park ranger who uses dangerous methods to save endangered alligators” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

To make fans of these ‘80s pop superstars even more excited, the pair then will fight both at a party and in a swamp.  For more news in the best-casting-ever-for-the-best-movie-ever department, hit the jump.

When Gibson and Tiffany were at their height in the mid ‘80s, outlets like MTV painted them as rivals. In recent years, though, both have turned to acting and each – independently – have started in Syfy movies. The idea for them to do battle, though, came from a recent visit Tiffany has to the Syfy brass where she said she’d always wanted to work with Gibson.

All joking aside, how great of an idea is this for Syfy? We all know their movies aren’t taken seriously anyway so by casting these two well known names, and getting them to fight, you automatically fulfill the fantasies of boys who grew up in the era, get a ton of press and raise anticipation for a movie that, if it didn’t start Gibson and Tiffany, would just sound like a big snake fighting an energy drink.

I, for one, will be DVRing the heck out of this. Who is with me?
