Lionsgate has released a new Deepwater Horizon trailer online. Per the logline, “On April 20th, 2010, one of the world’s largest man-made disasters occurred on the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico. Directed by Peter Berg (Lone Survivor), this story honors the brave men and women whose heroism would save many on board, and change everyone’s lives forever.”

It feels like “heroism” might be missing the point of the story much in the same way that Lone Survivor neglected any of the complexities of the War on Terror and instead boiled things down to the simplest terms possible. Drilling in the gulf is a controversial issue, but it looks like Deepwater Horizon will dodge that controversy by keeping the focus on people saving each other rather than the damage done by spewing millions of gallons of oil in the ocean.

Check out the new Deepwater Horizon trailer below along with five character posters. The film opens September 30th and stars Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, Gina Rodriguez, Dylan O’Brien, and Kate Hudson.
