Itâs not official yet, but Denzel Washington is considering starring in a movie not directed by Tony Scott. Deadline reports that Washingtonâwhoâs been on an action drama bent for the past few yearsâis in negotiations to star in the action pic 2 Guns. The film has been in development with Mark Wahlberg for quite some time, with David O. Russell circling the directorâs chair at one point. Wahlbergâs Contraband director Baltasar Kormakur recently signed on to direct, and now production is moving forward as Washington seems poised to become Wahlbergâs co-star. Based on the graphic novel by Steven Grant, the film centers on a DEA agent and an undercover naval intelligence officer who unknowingly investigate each other as each is stealing money from the mob. When Russell was onboard and working on the screenplay, he described it as a romantic western. Thereâs no word on what the current tone might be, but with the addition of Kormakur and now Washington, Iâm guessing weâre in for another hard-boiled action thriller. Washington will next be seen in the actioner Safe House, but weâll get to see him stretch his dramatic chops once again with Robert Zemeckisâ drama Flight. A pulp story about cops and thieves and the men that are something in between. Trench has targeted a local bank to rob, and asked Steadman in on the job. Trench figures itâs a great way to score â considering itâs a cover for mob money. Theyâll be thieves ripping off thieves. But what Steadman doesnât know is that Trench is a DEA agent. And what Trench doesnât know is that Steadmanâs a Naval Intelligence officer. Theyâre both cops! And neither one knows that theyâre not robbing the mob, theyâve been set up to steal $50 million from the CIA! A light-hearted crime romp in the vein of Oceanâs Thirteen and The Italian Job from comics legend, Steven Grant! [Boom! Studios]
