Note: Due to interviewing over 30 people and being provided with movie clips to almost every film at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, it’s taken some time to post everything on the site. The goal is to be finished with all the Sundance stuff this week. In case you’ve missed clips or video interviews, look for a big wrap-up article when it’s all online.

Another of the many films that premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival was director Tom DiCillo’s “When You’re Strange”. The film is a documentary on The Doors and Jim Morrison, and its big selling point is that it features all new footage of the band and Jim.

While this was one of the many films I missed at this year’s festival, I did post a trailer, so you can see some of the movie here.

Anyway, while at Sundance I managed to participate in interviews with director Tom DiCillo and Ray Manzarek/Robby Krieger (members of The Doors). And the reason I say participate is…I only did the camera for the interviews.

The reason for that was…I was staying in a condo with Devin from CHUD and since he’s a big Doors fan, I thought why not have someone who is really knowledgeable about the band ask the questions.

<spanface="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">So while you’re about to watch the interview with Tom, tomorrow night Devin and I will be posting our interview with Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger. Part one will run on CHUD, and part two will be here on Collider. Who says websites can’t work together...

Tom DiCillo

  • Since he usually does narrative films, what brought him to making a documentary on The Doors
  • What was the most surprising thing that he learned about Jim Morrison and The Doors
  • How did he balance the mythology of the band with the facts of the documentary
  • What is it about Jim Morrison that fuels the urban legend that he didn’t die in Paris
  • What’s next for him
