Disney is looking to continue its successful run of converting beloved animated classics into live-action features, a trend that includes Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, and Cinderella. Now, the studio has acquired a spec script for a live-action take on Prince Charming from screenwriter Matt Folger. This new acquisition would be at least third in line behind two of Disney's other projects: a sequel to the 2010 Alice in Wonderland hit titled Alice Through the Looking Glass due out in 2016, and Bill Condon's 2017 re-imagining of Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the title roles.

As THR reports, Prince Charming is nowhere near the casting stage at this point, having just been acquired as a spec script. Since the character appears across multiple fairy tales in literature and even in contemporary adaptations - see Into the Woods - there's no reason to jump to the conclusion that this is a follow-up to this year's Cinderella as far as casting or even storylines are concerned. In fact, Variety reports that the script might not even be directly about the title character, but rather his brother who has yet to live up to the family name. Mandeville Films and Tripp Vinson are set to produce the picture, categorized as a comedy.

Folger made his first sale on this script when Disney outbid other suitors. You might not recognize his name just yet, but he previously worked as an assistant under Phil Lord and Chris Miller during the production of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, so let's hope that some of their movie magic has rubbed off on him along the way.
