Disney has just announced at its D23 Expo plans for a new twist on an old tale, with their “definitive” take on "Jack in the Beanstalk," coming in 2018. The animated film, titled Gigantic, will take place in Spain during the Age of Discovery, and feature Jack becoming friends with a child princess who is also a giantess. The movie will also be a musical a la Frozen, and will feature the same song writing team of Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (so expect earworms!)

Gigantic (from Tangled director Nathan Greno) will also feature more than just a couple living on a cloud, and will actually introduce an entire world of giants, including Storm Giants who wreak havoc. Also, don’t expect a love story between Jack and the princess — he’s a grown man that she thinks he is a doll, basically. Only friendship, guys. Only. Friendship.

Check out the press release below for all of the info we know so far about Gigantic:

“GIGANTIC” TAKES ROOT – Things are looking up at Walt Disney Animation Studios – way up. “Gigantic,” Disney’s unique take on “Jack and the Beanstalk,” will feature music from Oscar®-winning songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who greeted D23 EXPO fans in signature style—in song—alongside director Nathan Greno (“Tangled”) and producer Dorothy McKim (“Get A Horse!”). Set in Spain during the Age of Exploration, Disney’s “Gigantic” follows adventure-seeker Jack as he discovers a world of giants hidden within the clouds. He hatches a grand plan with Inma, a 60-foot-tall, 11-year-old girl, and agrees to help her find her way home. But he doesn’t account for her super-sized personality—and who knew giants were so down to earth? “Gigantic” hits theaters in 2018.
