Disney is setting its sights on marathon running for its next inspiration sports movie. The Mouse House has tapped Bill Wheeler (The Cape) to pen a pic based on the true story of Greek marathoner Stylianos “Stelios” Kyriakides. The champion long distance runner competed in the 1936 Olympic games, but his career came to a hault when the Nazis brought their reign to his home country. After fighting with the resistance, he came to the U.S. in weakened condition and entered the Boston Marathon despite protests from officials that he may not survive. He pulled himself from last place to shout “For Greece!” as he crossed the finish line, winning the marathon.

THR reports that Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray (The Rookie, Secretariat) are onboard to produce alongside Paris Latsis and Terry Dougas, so expect a feel-good family flick. No director is currently attached, but the material seems right up Disney’s alley so expect more information sooner rather than later.
