Ah, the casting saga of Doctor Strange continues.  I'm sure whoever director Scott Derrickson casts in the role will be great, but it's interesting to see the wide breadth of names being mentioned for the part.  Derrickson and Marvel had been dancing with Joaquin Phoenix for a while before he dropped out and a lot of the subsequent online fan casting has mentioned names like Keanu Reeves and Ethan Hawke.

One of the names those fan casters haven't brought up is Ewan McGregor, but here he is suddenly in the middle of the conversation.  And I don't even necessarily think he'd be a bad choice.  He may not look the part on the surface, but there's this thing he can do called "acting" that I'm sure could smooth everything over.  Hit the jump for more on Ewan McGregor potentially playing Doctor Strange.

Devin Faraci at Badass Digest has the scoop (and I'm giving you my weekly reminder that he's usually right about this kind of stuff):

Yesterday a new source contacted me and said that Ewan McGregor had been prepping for the role - doing the usual research actors do when looking at taking on an adaptation or existing character. I contacted one of my usual sources and asked if this was true, and I was told "They're looking at him."

While "looking at him" seems vague I actually think there's a good chance this thing happens.  They've been casting the part for a while and I don't think they'd entertain any candidates at this point that they aren't dead serious about.  What about you?  Before you weigh in with the pros and cons on this piece of potential casting, you should consider the photo (originally posted by Faraci in the BAD article) below.  It's from the set of Jane Got a Gun and it looks more like Strange than McGregor to me.
