Paparazzi pics of Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Mads Mikkelsen filming Doctor Strange have littered the Web this past week. But now director Scott Derrickson has announced the end of filming on Marvel’s November release. How did the cast and crew commemorate the occasion? Derrickson followed Cumberbatch dressed in character as the Sorcerer Supreme into JHU Comic Books on 32nd Street in Midtown Manhattan.

“One never knows when the Master of the Mystic Arts will stop by,” Marvel tweeted, while footage from the shop’s security cameras of the interaction were posted online.

One of the managers, Rene Rosa, described the visit on the JHU Comic Books blog. He wrote in part:

Dr. Strange was filming on 32nd street, just mere feet away from our store's door, and as I was working, my friend Z. Lee came by. (He's the one that took the pictures you've been seeing all over the net.”) Well, during the day, the crew came in to check out the place because they were shocked to see a comic book store where they were filming. The bulk of the crew is based out of the UK and there are very few comic book stores there. They apologized a bunch of times about how the street was going to be mostly closed down for the bulk of the day for shooting and many of them came in to buy stuff. Seriously, these guys were incredibly nice and considerate. Then, at one point, one of the producers joked about how great it would be to have Benedict come into the store in costume. Of course, I didn't know he was one of the producers, at the time. I told him that if he did, I would lose my damn mind.

Derrickson recently announced a wrap on Doctor Strange with a tweet. The film, which also features Tilda Swinton, Rachel McAdams, Scott Adkins, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benedict Wong, and Amy Landecker, is scheduled for release on November 4th. Unlike fellow newbie Marvel heroes Black Panther and Spider-Man, Stephen Strange won’t have a role to play in Captain America: Civil War, but co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo teased that if he were he’d be fighting for Team Cap.
