What’s been going on this week in the world of limited-edition screenprints and posters?  Plenty.  In today’s edition of Limited Paper, we dig up some exclusive details on a top-secret print from Mark Englert (one that oughtta make sci-fi nerds extremely happy),   give you the rundown on a brand-new print from Mondo and Tom Whalen (based on Universal’s ParaNorman), and discuss Todd Slater’s entry in Gallery1988’s long-running Breaking Bad series.  It’s a packed edition of Limited Paper, and it’s all waiting for you after the jump, folks…

Big news today, folks!  As Limited Paper readers know, we’re big fans of Mark Englert around here:  ever since Limited Paper #1 (where we named him as our first-ever “Thing Worth Getting Excited About”), we’ve been keeping tabs on the guy’s output…and getting excited all over again each and every time he reveals a new piece.  As of late, that excitement has centered around Mark’s Alien-themed You Are My Lucky Star variant (seen below), which has been making its way towards an online drop ever since the regular edition dropped at Comic-Con last month.

Well, earlier this week—while digging around for new hints regarding the Lucky Star variant’s drop-date—we noticed that Mark posted a preview image for another upcoming project, one we’d been completely unaware of until now.  Before we go on, let’s take a look at that image:

Well, well, well.  That certainly looks a lot like…well, I think we all know what that looks like, don’t we?  After that tease arrived online, we did a little digging, and quickly learned that the piece would be released via LtD Edition Gallery, a really cool joint operating out of the UK (you can check out their site right here).  Never one to shy away from a little investigative reporting, we rolled up our sleeves, dug a little deeper…and were able to come up with some exclusive new information about the print.

Here’s what we learned:

  • The print’s titled The Oldest and Most Mighty Race in The Universe.
  • Each print will be numbered from an edition of 200.
  • The print features four inks (three of which will be fluorescent).
  • LtD Edition’s selling the print for $65 with free shipping, anywhere in the world!

What about variants, you ask?  Well, this coming Sunday (August 19th), LtD Edition Gallery will be pre-selling 50 Glow-in-The-Dark versions of the print (also $65 with free shipping) through their website, and--like the regular edition-- all Glow-in-The-Dark copies of the print will ship in late October.  But wait, there’s more:   this Wednesday both versions will be exclusively revealed here at Limited Paper!  Wanna see a tease of the GID version?  Of course you do:

Hmmm.  Mysterious, eh?  As if all this wasn’t enough, we’ve also learned that an AP edition of the poster will be made available through Englert himself sometime after the regular and GID editions have shipped.  What will that version of the print entail?  We haven’t found out anything specific just yet, but we have been told that it’ll be of great interest to superfans of the property the print’s based on, that it’ll be hand-finished, and that it’ll be markedly more expensive than the edition being sold by LtD Edition Gallery.  Whatever it is, we’re pretty sure it’s gonna rock (when has Englert ever given us a print that doesn’t rock?).

So, there ya have it!  Head on over to LtD Edition Gallery’s page to bookmark the page for next week’s pre-sale, and be sure to stay tuned:  like we said, we will exclusively reveal both versions of the poster—the regular and the Glow-in-The-Dark edition—this Wednesday here at Limited Paper on Collider.com!  We’ll also have some quotes from both Mark Englert and the folks at LtD Edition Gallery, along with the further details on the poster itself.

MONDO AND TOM WHALEN DO PARANORMAN

Midway through the week, Mondo held a special pre-screening of Universal’s forthcoming ParaNorman at the South Lamar Alamo Drafthouse, and—as expected—there was a brand-new print on offer after the show.  It was also expected that Tom Whalen (Mondo’s go-to artist for “Posters Based on Animated/Disney Stuff”) would be producing the print, and that expectation turned out to be right on the money.  Here’s what it looked like:

  • ParaNorman by Tom Whalen
  • 18x24”
  • $45 edition of 275

The print—like so many before it—is a lot more impressive than the jpeg above might imply, and seemed to sell fairly well after this week’s screening (it’s worth noting, by the way, that Mondo had special “Mondo Sip” cups printed up before the event, and everyone had one sitting in front of them when they sat down inside the Drafthouse that evening;  you can see mine below).  They did not, however, sell out at the screening, so it’s likely that the extras will be a part of an online drop in the near future.  As per usual, you can follow @MondoNews for more on that one, or just keep your bookmarks marked and your eyes peeled over at Mondo’s website.

BREAKING BAD’S POSTER SERIES GOES TO THE CRAWLSPACE

Ever since Gallery1988’s Breaking Bad poster series kicked off a few months back, fans of AMC’s genre-busting series (for our money, the best thing on TV these days by a wide margin) have been clamoring for someone—anyone!—to take on “Crawl Space”, widely regarded as one of the show’s best (if not the best) installments.  With just a few more prints to go before the series wraps up completely, BreakingGIF’s finally delivered on that demand with the following Todd Slater print:

  • Heisenberg by Todd Slater
  • 18x24”
  • $50 edition of 200

The print’s been the subject of much debate since it debuted, with part of the poster-collecting community declaring it one of the series’ best…and others declaring it one of the worst.  This is pretty much par for the course on G88’s Breaking Bad series, though:  artists like Tom Whalen, Frank Kozik, Rich Kelly, and Mark Englert have all turned in posters that have inspired much debate, but for all the back-and-forth that seems to be taking place over these prints…they never seem to have much of a problem selling out, do they?  Heisenberg performed similarly upon dropping online, selling out in roughly five minutes.  Here at Limited Paper HQ, we’re still not quite sure how we feel about the print, but we’ll be happy to hear what you have to say about it in the comments section below if you’ve got anything you’d like to say about it.

Well, folks, that about does it for this weekend’s Limited Paper.  Be sure to tune back in one Wednesday for our exclusive reveal of Ltd Edition Gallery’s collaboration with Mark Englert (along with details on the regular and GID versions of the print), as well as any other screenprint-related news we might dig up between now and then!  As always, if you’re a gallery, artist, or just someone with a hot poster-related tip you wanna share, you can drop us a line at LimitedPaper@Gmail.com, or you can sound off in the comments section below if you’ve got anything you’d like to add to all this!  More to come folks, keep us bookmarked!
