Since before Don’t Breathe premiered at this year’s SXSW, I’d been hearing director Fede Alvarez had crafted something cool. For those that haven’t seen the well-cut trailers, the film stars Jane LevyDylan Minnette, and Daniel Zovatto as a trio of burglars who make the fatal mistake of breaking into the house of a blind man (Stephen Lang) who is nowhere near as frail as he appears to be.

While I wasn’t sure the movie could sustain the cat and mouse game, Perri came out of the SXSW screening raving about the film saying:

“One of the most impressive things about Don’t Breathe is that the scenario never grows old. Alvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues find clever new ways to up the suspense and shock viewers from start to finish. Standouts include a sequence that takes place in the dark and another that features Levy and the blind man’s dog, both of which benefit from Alvarez’s deft direction and camerawork.”

She summed the movie up thusly:

“Don’t Breathe is a masterful combination of suspense and violence that’ll have you squirming in your seat and enjoying every minute of it.”

If you don’t know Perri, she’s a big fan of the horror genre and knows her stuff. If she says it’s great I’m sold.
