Open Road has released a new Dope trailer. The movie follow self-proclaimed 90s nerds Malcolm (Shameik Moore) and his friends Diggy (Kiersey Clemons) and Jib (Tony Revolori) who get caught up in a drug deal and must figure out how to recoup the money and stay alive.

This trailer tells you none of that, but it tries to deliver an energetic tone that hopes to draw in viewers by mixing style, pop, and providing quick looks at the characters’ offbeat personalities and goals. Last night I went to see a screening of Hot Pursuit (don’t repeat my mistake), but the theater was also hosting a screening of Dope, and people were lining up to get in. The film definitely has the potential to be a crossover indie hit this summer.

Check out the trailer below, and click here to read my review from Sundance. The film opens June 19th, and also stars Kimberly Elise, A$AP Rocky, Blake Anderson, Keith Stanfield, Chanel Iman, Quincy Brown, and Zoë Kravitz.

Here’s the official synopsis for Dope:

A critical hit and audience favorite out of the Sundance Film Festival, in DOPE, Malcolm (Shameik Moore) is carefully surviving life in a tough neighborhood in Los Angeles while juggling college applications, academic interviews, and the SAT. A chance invitation to an underground party leads him into an adventure that could allow him to go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself.
