Open Road has released a Dope teaser trailer that will tell you nothing about the film. The movie follow self-proclaimed 90s nerds Malcolm (Shameik Moore) and his friends Diggy (Kiersey Clemons) and Jib (Tony Revolori) who get caught up in a drug deal and must figure out how to recoup the money and stay alive. Although Dope has a promisining first act with unique characters, it eventually falls into being a Risky Business clone.

However, the pacing of the film may have been fixed. The reported runtime [via The Film Stage] has been cut down from 115 minutes to 104 minutes, so perhaps that will help with the unwieldy story, although I don’t see how it can solve certain elements that are engrained in the plot and setup. However, Dope’s not a bad film, and hopefully these cuts will make it a better one.

Check out the Dope trailer below and click over to Apple to see it in HD. The film opens June 19th, and also stars Kimberly Elise, A$AP Rocky, Blake Anderson, Keith Stanfield, Chanel Iman, Quincy Brown, and Zoë Kravitz.

Here’s the official synopsis for Dope:

A critical hit and audience favorite out of the Sundance Film Festival, in DOPE, Malcolm (Shameik Moore) is carefully surviving life in a tough neighborhood in Los Angeles while juggling college applications, academic interviews, and the SAT. A chance invitation to an underground party leads him into an adventure that could allow him to go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself.
