We’ve got a trio of casting stories to attend to this evening. Briefly:
- Dwayne Johnson is looking to add “Disney Animated Film” to his world takeover plans, as the prolific (and unendingly charming) actor is in talks to voice a role in Disney’s Moana.
- Scandal star Kerry Washington is in talks to lead the thriller Unforgettable, with Kate Hudson also in early negotiations for a role.
- Amber Heard is in talks to join Les Miserables director Tom Hooper’s next film The Danish Girl.
More on the aforementioned casting after the jump.
Though Disney Animation only just confirmed the existence and a November 2016 release date for the film, The Wrap reports that Dwayne Johnson is in early talks to voice a role in Moana. The animated comedy-adventure revolves around a spirited teenager and born navigator who teams up with the legendary demi-god Maui and sets out to fulfill her ancestors’ quest. Johnson is in talks to voice the character of Maui, and the South Pacific setting of the film seems like a fine fit for Johnson, whose mother is of Samoan heritage. Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little Mermaid) are directing.
Additionally, Variety reports that Kerry Washington is in talks to star in the Warner Bros. thriller Unforgettable. The story revolves around a man whose new wife (Washington) is menaced by his ex-wife. Kate Hudson is in early talks to co-star in the pic as the ex-wife, and while that premise sounds a bit troubling, it’s encouraging that Belle filmmaker Amma Asante is set to direct. Washington’s deal is still in early stages, but apparently both sides are determined to make things work. Christina Hodson is writing the script.
Finally, Deadline reports that The Rum Diary actress Amber Heard is in talks to join the cast of The Danish Girl. The drama is poised to be the next film from Oscar-winning The King’s Speech director Tom Hooper, and it revolves around the love story of Danish painter Einar Wegener and his wife Gerda. In 1930, Wegener was one of the first men ever to undergo an operation to become a woman. Eddie Redmayne is set to star as Wegener with Alicia Vikander onboard as Gerda, and Heard is in talks to play the strong supporting role of Oola. The film is inspired by David Ebershoff’s novel of the same name.
