Emma Roberts has been cast in Dimension Films Scream 4 as Jill - who is one of the film’s primary heroines.  She's joining Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Neve Campbell in director/producer Wes Craven's film.

With shooting set to begin in a little over a month, the film is putting the finishing touches on casting.  Just a week ago we reported the studio was in talks with Ashley Greene (Twilight), Hayden Panettiere (Heroes), Lake Bell (It’s Complicated), and Rory Culkin (Mean Creek) to join the cast.  But with Emma Roberts landing the role of Jill - who was the role Greene was up for - it remains unclear if Greene is out of the running completely. More after the jump:

In the movie, Jill is Campell's cousin and she's also the love interest of Culkin's character.  If cast, Panettiere would be playing a nerdy film geek who is her best friend.  Meanwhile, Bell will be playing a police officer who knew Sidney (Campbell) from high school.

As we reported last week, the story is still unknown due to secrecy but the plan is for the film to “be seen as a passing of the baton to a new generation of slasher victims.” Filming is expected to begin June 28 in Michigan.  Here’s the first poster if you missed it.

And in EW's article (who broke the Roberts casting news), Roberts offered a quote about being cast:

“I’m so excited to be part of this ground-breaking franchise.  It’s the perfect opportunity for me to do something completely different than I’ve ever done before.”

Director/producer Wes Craven adds, “Emma’s talent, beauty, and range will add immensely to the sophistication, intensity, and fun of the Scream franchise as it returns to the screen once more.”

I'm sure more casting will be announced soon.  We'll post updates as we hear it.
