Nominations for the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced this morning, and you know what, there's really not a lot to complain about. The Americans finally got its due after the show's best season yet, nabbing nominations for Best Drama Series, Actor (Matthew Rhys), Actress (Keri Russell), and writing, and Game of Thrones unsurprisingly loomed large over the list with a bevy of acting nominations in addition to Best Drama Series, Writing, and Directing, the latter of which landed nods for "The Battle of the Bastards" and "The Door", specifically.
On the comedy side of things, the love was spread pretty evenly between Veep, Silicon Valley, Black-ish, and others, and the Miniseries/Limited Series categories were rightfully dominated by the spectacular The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story and the second season of Fargo.
My biggest qualm comes in the Best Variety Talk Series category, where Late Night with Seth Meyers and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee—consistently the two best late night series—were shut out, while the ever-unfunny The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon landed a nod. Although a nomination for Jerry Seinfeldd's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee was well-deserved.
