‘Everybody Wants Some!!’ Clip: Riding in Cars with Boys and The Sugarhill Gang

     March 30, 2016

Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some!! is the spiritual sequel to the director’s famous Dazed and Confused, released 22 years ago, and the comparison becomes even clearer with the latest clip. Riding around in cars was a major element of the 1993 film and captured the teen experience of suburban, rural friends palling around while listening to the music that defined the era. In Everybody Wants Some!!, one of those songs is from The Sugarhill Gang.

The entire clip is just Glee’s Blake Jenner and the guys singing to “Rapper’s Delight,” but it’s a delightful throwback to the ‘80s. Just think of how funny these guys would be if they played something like “Would You Rather?” Oh wait…

Now check out this clip from Dazed and Confused, which features the same sort of setup in the ‘70s with era-appropriate music:

In Everybody Wants Some!!, both directed and written by Linklater, a group of friends on a college baseball team go through college and all the shenanigans with drugs, music, and sex afforded them by the total lack of supervision. The cast features Will Brittain (Kong: Skull Island), Zoey Deutch (Vampire Academy), Ryan Guzman (The Boy Next Door), Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf), Glen Powell (Scream Queens), Wyatt Russell (22 Jump Street), Austin Amelio (The Walking Dead), Juston Street (My All American), and newcomers J. Quinton Johnson, Temple Baker, Tanner Kalina, and Forrest Vickery.

After garnering high acclaim from the film festival circuit, especially from SXSW, Everybody Wants Some!! will expand into select theaters this Friday before a wide release on April 8th, although people in New York and Los Angeles can see it today. See the link below to get tickets:
