Considering that Netflix's last animated series was BoJack Horseman, one of the best series currently available on television or streaming period, there's every reason to get excited for F is for Family, their latest adult-oriented cartoon. The fact that the series is the brainchild of the hugely talented Bill Burr, who you may know either from his plethora of stand-up appearances or, more likely, his supporting role in Breaking Bad, gives even more reason to get excited for the 1970s-set series.

Now, we have confirmation that the show is, at the very least, of distinct interest, with the arrival of the first trailer for the series, which looks like an animated reinvention of shows like Married...with Children and All in the Family. There's also notes of Mike Judge's long-running, surprisingly great King of the Hill, though the vibrant cursing and more open sense of sexuality already gives the series its own distinct flavor. Beyond Burr's vocal work as the paterfamilias of the nuclear suburban family, the cast also includes Laura Dern as the doting mother, Justin Long as the eldest child, and Sam Rockwell as the neighborhood hunk, as well as American Idol breakout Haley Reinhart. The animation style is familiar, somewhere between King of the Hill and Hulu's mildly inventive The Awesomes, but the writing sounds sharp overall, at once endearingly embracing the old-fashioned humor of the age while also imbuing the material with a modern directness that cuts through any overt nostalgia. We'll have to wait and see, however, if this is just cherry-picked moments from the entire series or if this welcome sort of humor is symbolic of Burr's entire series. The series debuts on Netflix on December 18th, which is actually kind of perfect for those who will need a bit of a come-down following the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on the very same day.
