This year, be ready to visit a flooded post-apocalyptic landscape that will blow you away. The upcoming videogame FAR: Changing Tides, first unveiled in summer 2021, will set you on a one-of-a-kind journey through unruly waters in search of a place to call home.

Developed by Switzerland-based indie studio Okomotive, which was founded five years ago by Don Schmocker and Goran Saric, FAR: Changing Tides is a follow-up to the company’s 2018 game FAR: Lone Sails. Schmocker has stated that for the second installment, the team took into consideration the fans' feedback and made sure to preserve the same “meditative atmosphere” while simultaneously offering players a brand-new experience that feels fresh and expands on the previous game’s setting, adding more high-sea environments as well as new puzzles and naval mechanics.

In FAR: Changing Tides, players become Toe, a young boy who finds himself alone in a submerged world. In addition to the enhanced graphics, the trailer showcases Toe adventuring around in his boat, which already looks too large for the tiny protagonist. The mechanical ship - your best friend in this adventure - has a spectacular design resembling a more rustic and unsophisticated steampunk art style. We can also see in the trailer that some of the locations you visit in your travels are underwater. In the depths of the sea, you must scavenge for fuel and other useful stray items that will help you overcome the challenges you'll have to face. If you dare to confront the dangers lurking far below the water’s surface, you can discover incredible treasures and sunken civilizations from the past. All of this helps piece together the story you will be uncovering while playing.

In regards to the game's environments, Schmocker added: “For Changing Tides, we wrote the majority of the story and world-building during pre-production, this gave us better direction and allowed us to plan and design the environments together with the story.”. The trailer certainly gives the impression of cohesion between the aesthetics and locations and the larger story at play.

This relaxing game boasts stimulating puzzles and a dynamic soundtrack that will help you feel even more immersed while playing. You can get a taste of the beautiful music in the trailer.
