Sony is hoping that lightning strikes twice (or would it be three times now?) with another round of 21 Jump Street, this time with two female leads. We previously reported that Broad City writers Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs were busy scripting the female-driven Jump Street spinoff, but now it seems as if they'll have some competition/collaboration in the writers' room. THR reports that Sony liked a pitch from sisters Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux, so they brought the Bob's Burgers writers on board for a separate script. This dual-track approach could end up with one writing team as the clear victor, or perhaps the end result will be more of a blended version of both scripts; either way, there's plenty of comedic talent behind the pages so I'm less concerned about this project than, say, the future Transformers films.

Why bring up Transformers? Well, not only did the franchise's writers' room just get a lot more crowded, but they're planning on vastly expanding the universe for their robots in disguise. This is exactly the sort of thing that Sony's 23 Jump Street will presumably tackle, just as the previous installments satirized reboots and sequels respectively. Though I'd be surprised to see if the planned Jump Street/Men in Black crossover actually comes to fruition, I'm happy to see Sony sending up their properties and not taking themselves so seriously.

And 21 Jump Street isn't the only franchise getting a gender bend. A long-awaited new installment in the Ghostbusters series with Paul Feig directing Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig is in the works, so who knows will will show up in that one. Maybe Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will meet their maker in 23 Jump Street (let's face it, that's the only way they'll get out of the franchise), only to haunt the lady Ghostbusters. Stranger things have happened.
