Following a rather lengthy development period, the Fifty Shades of Grey movie is finally off and running.  The adaptation of the sultry E.L. James novel was thrown a curveball when Charlie Hunnam abruptly dropped out of the male lead role, leaving director Sam Taylor-Johnson scrambling to find a replacement with an August 2014 release date looming.  The Fall actor Jamie Dornan was eventually cast as Hunnam’s replacement opposite Dakota Johnson (Ben & Kate), but now Universal has understandably pushed the film’s release date back a few months.  Instead of going head-to-head with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014, Fifty Shades of Grey will steam up movie theater screens on February 13, 2015.  Happy Valentine’s Day!

In anticipation of production beginning very soon, the first images of Dornan and Johnson in character as the book’s sex-adventurous duo has been revealed on the latest cover of EW.  Hit the jump to take a look and for release date news for the James Brown biopic Get on Up and the genre redo Dracula Untold.

With its release date shift, Fifty Shades of Grey now enters the movie logjam of 2015.  The only other films currently slated for that Valentine’s Day weekend are the Nicholas Sparks adaptation The Longest Ride and the animated sequel Spongebob SquarePants 2.

Additionally, director Tate Taylor’s (The Help) James Brown biopic Get on Up will now open in theaters on August 1, 2014 instead of October 17th.  47 star Chadwick Boseman plays Brown and will be surrounded by an impressive supporting cast that includes Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Dan Aykroyd.  Finally, director Gary Shore’s “origin story” Dracula Untold will open a couple of weeks later on October 17, 2014.  Luke Evans, Dominic Cooper, and Sarah Gadon star.
