The first images of Hank Azaria as Gargamel in Sony Pictures The Smurfs have hit the net.  The reason we're getting our first look at Gargamel is the production was shooting on the streets of New York City and the paparazzi got him. As you can tell in the above image, the production seems to be sticking close to the cartoon.   For more pictures and the synopsis, hit the jump.

The Smurfs get smurfed on August 3, 2011.  The cast includes Neil Patrick Harris (Johan), Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara (Odile-Johan's wife), Anton Yelchin (Clumsy Smurf), Jonathan Winters (Papa Smurf), Katy Perry (Smurfette), Alan Cumming (Gutsy Smurf), Fred Armisen (Brainy Smurf), George Lopez (Grouchy Smurf), and Paul Reubens (Jokey Smurf).

In the 3D August 3, 2011 release, the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village and they tumble from their magical world into ours - in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.
