Does Rob Reiner have another good movie in him?  Reiner directed some of the classic films of the 80s including This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride. He was doing pretty well half-way through the 90s with Misery, A Few Good Men, and The American President.  Then it all went horribly wrong.  Since 1995, Reiner has directed The Story of Us, Alex & Emma, Rumor Has It, and The Bucket List.

But the trailer for his latest film, Flipped, gives me hope.  It's steeped in 50s nostalgia, but looks to have a very sweet story at its center.  Flipped is about two 8th graders trying to navigate their feelings for each other.  Since there aren't any movie stars, the film looks like it has an authenticity that Reiner sorely needs.  Hopefully, Flipped will be the movie that pulls Reiner out of his fifteen year rut.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Flipped hits theaters on August 6th.

Here's the official synopsis for Flipped:

When second-graders Bryce and Juli first meet, Juli knows it's love. But Bryce isn't so sure. Girl-phobic and easily embarrassed, young Bryce does everything he can to keep his outspoken wannabe girlfriend at arm's length... for the next six years, which isn't easy since they go to the same school and live across the street from each other. But if Juli finally looks away, will it be Bryce's turn to be dazzled? 'Flipped' takes Bryce and Juli from grade school to junior high, through triumph and disaster, family drama and first love, as they make the discoveries that will define who they are -- and who they are to each other.
