Friday Box Office: GRAVITY Stays on Top as CARRIE, ESCAPE PLAN, and THE FIFTH ESTATE Open

     October 19, 2013

Three new releases challenged Gravity for the top spot at the box office on Friday, but the 3D space thriller remained on top with $9.1 million.  Gravity will cross $150 today and is likely to win its third weekend in a row, bolstering the film’s Oscar chances.  Carrie put up the best fight with a $6.6 million Friday for second place.  The Stallone vs. Schwarzenegger pitch brought in just $3.4 million in business for Escape Plan, good enough for fourth place.  In a semi-wide release, The Fifth Estate lagged behind with a seventh place opening of $587,000.  Check back tomorrow for the weekend box office report.
