Severe weather may have kept Sony’s Robocop remake down to $2.8 million on its Wednesday debut, but the domestic box office rebounded in time for Valentine’s Day on Friday.  With one massive holdover and four new releases, this should be one of the biggest President’s Day holidays since 2010 - the last time that February 14th  landed on a weekend.  The date proved an asset for Universal’s Endless Love, which narrowly beat out Robocop for third place with an estimated $7.3 million.  About Last Night, the romantic comedy reboot starring Kevin Hart, had an even bigger debut: taking in $13 million from 2,253 locations, or just short of first place.  Warner Bros.’ romantic drama Winter’s Tale was not as fortunate, opening in seventh place with $3.65 million.

Even with all the competition, The LEGO Movie will have no trouble holding on to the top spot for a second week.  The animated hit is expected to earn another $45 million this weekend and a total of $60 million for the four-day holiday.  About Last Night will stay in second place with about $35 million through Sunday, with Endless Love and Robocop both projected to come in below $20 million.  We’ll have full details tomorrow.
