Consider me delightfully surprised to find out that a live-action Fullmetal Alchemist movie is on the way, let alone far enough along in filming to release this new teaser trailer. Unlike the current live-action Hollywood adaptations Ghost in the Shell and Death Note which faced their share of whitewashing controversy, this manga-turned-mainstream movie is a Japanese production through Warner Bros. that features a Japanese cast. But as you'll see in this new trailer, the countryside setting has a strong European influence, which pulls directly from the manga series written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa and the movies and series it inspired.

Fullmetal Alchemist centers on Ed and Al, two brothers who attempted to use the dangerous and powerful science of alchemy to resurrect their mother. That attempt failed, and the Elric brothers paid for their mistake with their own bodies since alchemy's central tenet, the Law of Equivalent Exchange, demanded it. This first look at the live-action treatment of their story is promising, but there is so much more yet to be shown as the film is still in production.

Directed by Fumihiko Sori, Fullmetal Alchemist stars Ryosuke Yamada as Edward Elric, Tsubasa Honda as Winry Rockbell, Fas Roy Mustang, Ryuuta Satou as Maes Hughes, Misako Renbutsu as Riza Hawkeye, Natsuna as Maria Ross,  Natsuki Harada as Gracia Hughes, You Ooizumi as Shou Tucker, Jun Kunimura as Tim Marcoh, Fumiyo Kohinata as Hakuro, Yasuko Matsuyuki as Lust, Kanata Hongou as Envy, Shinji Uchiyama as Gluttony, and Kenjirou Ishimaru as Father Cornello. Look for the film to conjure itself into being some time next year.
