Universal Pictures has released a pair of new Furious 7 TV spots for the upcoming action sequel. The Conjuring helmer James Wan takes over the director’s chair this time around, but judging by the footage in these new spots, you’d never guess Wan hadn’t directed a large-scale action film before. I’m really digging the look of the fight sequences overall, and this certainly looks to be a massive movie, but the CG “money shots” feel a tad out of place. Of course the franchise isn’t a stranger to VFX-enhanced stunt sequences, and overall the series has become more cartoon-like in nature re: its laws of physics (remember the freeway jump in FF6?), but I hope there’s a heavy foundation of practical effects throughout Furious 7.

Regardless, the movie looks like a lot of fun, and I imagine it’s going to look great in IMAX. Paul WalkerDwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana BrewsterRonda Rousey, Tony Jaa, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Djimon HounsouLucas Black, Elsa Pataky and Kurt RussellFurious 7 opens in traditional theaters and IMAX on April 3rd.
