Most of us, at one point or another, have longed for greater fortunes. A bigger house, a nicer car. Or, at the very least, enough to pay the bills. Hollywood is chock full of loaded stars.
Not all of them have made the bulk of their dough performing in front of the camera. And some have opted to spend their earnings on some most peculiar things.
Let’s count down the richest living actors and actresses. We bet you’ll be shocked at how much some of them are worth.
30. Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer Aniston’s done well for herself with film roles post 2004. What’s significant about that year? That’s when Friends ended.
When the show began, the six principal stars made $22,500 per episode. By the end of its run, they were pulling in $1-million per episode.
But the Friends money didn’t end when the show did. The cast members now receive two percent of the syndication income. So, these days, Aniston collects about $20-million a year from the show’s profits.
Between her commercials and other endorsements—beauty products, Smartwater, etc.—Aniston is worth $240-million. She can almost afford an actual Greenwich Village apartment’s rent!
29. Leonardo DiCaprio
Few movie stars have the grandeur of Leonardo DiCaprio. He’s old fashioned in some ways—a private star who chooses projects carefully, shies away from most interviews, and hasn’t found his way into a superhero film yet.
And yet, he makes a whole lot of money.
The Titanic and Inception star is so rich, he bought an island in 2009! That’s right, Leo purchased Blackadore Caye, a small island off the coast of Belize in the Caribbean Sea.
DiCaprio’s intent has been to build a sustainable eco-friendly resort there. When you’re worth $245-million, you can do with your money as you please.
28. Victoria Principal
Remember Victoria Principal? Known primarily for her many seasons on Dallas, Victoria has played recurring roles on several television series since then.
She hasn’t acted since 2001—a short-lived series called Titans. So how does she get on a list like this?
Principal’s interests go beyond acting. In 1989 she created a line of skincare products called Principal Secret. The company grew into an empire. In 2013, its revenue topped $1.5-billion.
Principal announced in 2019 that Guthy Renker was acquiring the business. Victoria would step aside to focus on her charitable organization, Victoria Principal Foundation For Thoughtful Existence. She’s worth an impressive $250-million.
27. Mark Wahlberg
He started as an underwear model. Then he became a rapper. Now he’s one of the biggest movie stars on the planet. The evolution of Mark Wahlberg has made him a very wealthy man.
These days, it isn’t just those movie roles that give him a $255-million net worth.
In addition to those big pay checks he commands each time he steps in front of a camera, Mark is part owner of a cricket team, the Barbados Tridents of the Canadian Premier League.
He also co-owns the fast food burger chain—Wahlburgers—with his brothers, and has a majority stake in bottled water brand Aquahydrate.
26. Robert De Niro
In the debate over the greatest actors who ever lived, Robert De Niro’s name is frequently thrown in. His performances in The Godfather Part II and Raging Bull are just two of the many highlights in a very long career.
With more than one-hundred credits, his fortune has grown.
De Niro is worth about $300-million. He’s got homes on both sides of the island of Manhattan, and a 78-acre estate in Ulster County, New York.
In addition to his co-ownership of the upscale Tribeca Grill, De Niro’s a stakeholder in Paradise Found Nobu Resort—a planned luxury resort on the island of Barbuda.
25. Brad Pitt
After humble beginnings growing up in Missouri, Brad Pitt has become a Hollywood icon. The World War Z and Fight Club star commands big paydays for each role he commits to.
His Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood salary was a reported $10-million alone!
Pitt made $31.5-million in 2016—his most lucrative year. Overall, he’s worth $300-million. But acting is just part of where that money comes from.
Brad owns Plan B Entertainment, which has produced three Best Picture winners (The Departed, 12 Years a Slave, and Moonlight). Personally, he has more than fifty producing credits. He’ll be cashing Hollywood checks for years to come.
24. Robert Downey Jr.
It’s been a roller coaster ride for Robert Downey Jr. Growing up with a filmmaker father, RDJ had an early introduction to the arts.
He found fame at age twenty on Saturday Night Live, moved on to film roles, and was nominated for an Oscar (Chaplin). Then he fell. Hard.
Drug addiction led to arrests. His career was slipping away. But after getting clean in 2003, he began a comeback. He found himself in more prominent roles. And then Iron Man happened in 2008.
Thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Downey Jr.’s movies have grossed nearly $6-billion! Today, he’s worth about $300-million.
23. Michael Douglas
He may have grown up with a famous father (Kirk Douglas), but Michael Douglas has had a successful career in his own right.
The Best Actor winner (Wall Street), also produced One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which won him a Best Picture honor.
Douglas’s salaries peaked in the late ‘90s. For his roles in The Game and A Perfect Murder, he was paid an astounding $20-million!
That kind of money has allowed him to own a 7,300-square foot home in Bermuda (with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones). They listed it in 2019 for $10-million. Michael also owns an Ariel Sands resort there.
22. Jessica Alba
You might be wondering what Jessica Alba is doing on this list. She’s done some film and television work somewhat consistently, but she hasn’t had a hit in a while. Those Fantastic Four movies were a long time ago!
Well, Alba’s made most of her fortune away from the entertainment business.
With her business partner, Alba launched The Honest Company in 2012. The company creates non-toxic goods and body care products. In just two years, it was valued at $1-billion.
Jessica then launched Honest Beauty in 2015, which creates beauty and skin care products. Her most recent reported net worth was a whopping $340-million.
21. Will Smith
Not long ago, if a studio wanted a hit, they just needed to cast Will Smith. Nineteen movies in which he’s played the lead have grossed over $100-million worldwide.
And that’s allowed him to command some pretty hefty paydays. He got $28-million for I, Robot alone!
But Will has been charitable with his earnings. In 2007 he donated a reported $1.3-million to charities. Three years later, he and wife Jada Pinkett Smith founded a private elementary school in Calabasas, California. The Smiths put $1.2-million into the school.
These days, Will is still getting big movies. He’s worth a cool $350-million.
20. Tom Hanks
You know him, you love him. He’s Tom Hanks, America’s sweetheart. No one has played more beloved characters and starred in as many cherished films than this man (sorry Abe Vigoda).
At the end of his incredible run in the 1990s, Hanks commanded $20-million a picture.
In all, Tom’s films have grossed just under $10-billion. And yet, rather than buy islands in Dubai, he’s a typewriter collector. He even published Uncommon Type, a book of short stories inspired by that collection.
He does other swell things, like serve on the board of the National Space Society. The Forrest Gump star is worth a reported $350-million.
19. Keanu Reeves
Whoa. Keanu Reeves made the list. Known as one of the nicest guys in Hollywood, Keanu’s trajectory has been on the rise since the John Wick films began.
In a career that’s seen him make as much as $15-million a movie (The Matrix sequels), Reeves has amassed quite a fortune.
Despite his $360-million net worth, Reeves has said he could live on what he’s already made for hundreds of years. Money is the last thing he thinks about, he claims.
In the early 2000s, Keanu very quietly set up a private foundation that helps aid cancer research and children’s hospitals. Heckuva guy!
Her real name is Cherilyn Sarkisian, but the world knows her, simply, as Cher. Known primarily as a recording artist, Cher is also an actress, in case you forgot. And a good one, too.
Nominated for a supporting role in Silkwood, Cher then won Best Actress for 1987’s Moonstruck.
Of course, her work pretending to be other people is not what lands her on this list; it’s her music career. She’s sold more than one-hundred million records worldwide as a solo artist. As part of Sonny & Cher, she’s sold another forty-million.
After decades of entertaining the masses, Cher is worth $360-million.
17. Clint Eastwood
Times sure have changed for Clint Eastwood. Once paid $75 for a movie he did in 1956 called Star in the Dust, the actor/director is now worth about $375-million.
The Dirty Harry star seems to become more prolific with age. And he’s made money in many ways.
Eastwood was once the mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, a city in Monterey, California. He would later open a pub there called the Hog’s Breath Inn. After selling it, he now owns the Mission Ranch Hotel and Restaurant nearby.
Clint also owns Malpaso Records (through Warner Bros. Records), through which he scores most of his films.
16. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
Remember the Olsen twins? You may not have heard their names in a while, yet they’ve still been making lots of money. And it’s not only from those Full House royalties.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have acted as adults, but something else pays the bills.
Retiring from acting in 2012, the twins turned to fashion. As early as 2004, they had a clothing line in Wal-Mart stores.
These days, they have two fashion brands and numerous concession brands. By 2015, their fashion label, The Row, was generating $50-million annually. The twins’ most recent net worth estimate had them at about $400-million.
15. Jackie Chan
He may only be 5’8”, but international movie stars don’t get much bigger than Jackie Chan. After much success in China, he was introduced to American audiences in the ‘90s.
Chan is highly regarded for his elaborate action sequences and commitment to performing all his own stunts (and all his own injuries).
In a film career that began way back in 1962, Jackie is a prolific actor, even into his sixties. His films have grossed better than $5-billion at the worldwide box office.
Thanks to projects like Around the World in 80 Days, in which he earned $20-million alone, Chan is now worth $400-million.
14. Sylvester Stallone
Few stars are paid as handsomely as Sylvester Stallone. Even for movies like Eye See You (ever heard of that one?), he got $20-million.
The Rocky and Rambo star is worth an estimated $400-million overall. If not for those two franchises, he’d be worth a lot less.
Following flops in the early 2000s, Stallone’s star began to fade. But in 2006, a new Rocky film led to another Rambo film as well as the Expendables franchise. Sly was Oscar-nominated for reprising his Rocky Balboa role in 2016’s Creed.
Stallone also owns a boxing promotion company, Tiger Eye Productions, and bottled water brand, Sly Water.
13. Jack Nicholson
He hasn’t made a movie since 2010, but Jack Nicholson’s body of work would put him on the Mount Rushmore of actors, if there was such a thing.
His three Oscar wins have him in rare company. Only Katharine Hepburn has won more (four). This has amounted to lots of cash.
Nicholson’s estimated worth is $400-million. The Chinatown star saw his salary rise the older he got. He was paid an unfathomable $20-million for Anger Management!
How does Jack spend his money? Well, you can see him sitting courtside at nearly every Lakers home game. He’s also got a huge collection of twentieth century and contemporary art.
12. Jennifer Lopez
Between her movies and her music and her dating A-Rod, Jennifer Lopez is as relevant as ever. It’s difficult to go more than a day or two without hearing her name somewhere.
Her 2019 performance in Hustlers generated the most critical acclaim she’s ever received. So, her star is still rising.
J. Lo is worth $400-million these days. How’d she achieve that? Well, she’s sold better than eighty-million records around the world. And her movies have grossed about $3.1-billion. That helps.
On top of that, she’s endorsed a bevy of products as well. Cars. Beer. Razors. Skincare products. You name it.
11. Adam Sandler
You wouldn’t know it to look at him, but Adam Sandler is a very rich man. Rising to fame in the ‘90s with hits like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, Sandler began commanding $25-million per movie in the 2000s.
Then, Netflix came calling.
Despite recent films’ less than stellar box office performance, Netflix sought Sandler for a four-movie deal back in 2015. Two years later, he signed another deal for four more movies!
Cranking out all these projects has put Sandler’s worth at $420-million. But his range spreads beyond commercial comedies. Check him out in the 2019 tense dramatic thriller Uncut Gems.
10. Mel Gibson
He’s done action, drama, and period epics. As an actor, few matched the intense charisma of Mel Gibson in the ‘80s and ‘90s. As a director, he’s even better.
After Braveheart won Best Picture (and Mel a Best Director), his fame skyrocketed even higher.
But his 2004 film, The Passion of the Christ, is what took Mel to the next level financially. Funding it himself, his depiction of the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus made an enormous $611-million.
Worth $425-million, Mel’s bought numerous properties in Malibu, Australia, Fiji, and Costa Rica. He’s also given hefty amounts of money to charities over the years, like Angels at Risk.
9. Amitabh Bachchan
Most Americans are probably unfamiliar with this name, but no movie star was bigger in India than Amitabh Bachchan in the ‘70s and ‘80s.
He was Bollywood’s “greatest actor of the century.” With close to two-hundred film credits, he was deemed a “one-man industry” by French director François Truffaut.
The multi-award-winning star has a net worth of $425-million. Beyond the big paydays for his films, Bachchan makes money in his other business ventures.
He owns ten percent of Just Dial and another three percent in financial technology firm Stampede Capital. More recently, he bought shares in the U.S.-based Meridian Tech.
8. George Clooney
He does comedy, he does drama, and he’s known as a notorious prankster. George Clooney is among the most affable folks in Hollywood.
The star of Gravity and ER is worth $500-million. But how he got that rich might surprise you.
Yes, he may have made $25-million for Tomorrowland alone, but Clooney cashed in big with a tequila company, Casamigos. He and a pair of friends started the company sort of by accident (they just wanted to make a tequila they enjoyed). It grew, and they sold it in 2017 for $1-billion.
Clooney and wife Amal have luxurious homes in Italy, Mexico, and England.
7. Tom Cruise
There’s no American movie star with more international appeal than Tom Cruise. The guy is obsessed with making great films. And to ensure their quality, he saves the wildest stunts for himself.
Cruise produces all his films as well, giving him more control and bigger paychecks.
All that money (he’s worth $570-million) has allowed him to purchase multiple properties. Tom’s Telluride home was listed at $59-million. He’s owned several Los Angeles mansions, a penthouse in London, and two apartments in New York.
The Mission: Impossible star reportedly bought a condo in Clearwater, Florida in 2018. Apparently his son Connor works on a fishing boat in the area.
6. Tyler Perry
In 2005, Tyler Perry raised enough money to make his first hit, Diary of a Mad Black Woman. That allowed him to make more. And more. In total, his films have grossed over $500-million.
He then ventured into television. And he picked the right person to partner with.
Since 2012, Perry has produced original programming on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network. But he outdid himself in 2015, building Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. Everything from The Walking Dead to Black Panther have shot there.
Perry’s net worth stands at $600-million. He’s got properties in Los Angeles, Wyoming, the Bahamas, and a custom-built environmentally-friendly mansion in Atlanta.
5. Shah Rukh Khan
Another curious name to American audiences is this one: Shah Rukh Khan. Perhaps his moniker will impress you more: “King of Bollywood.”
Having starred in over eighty Bollywood films, Khan’s won fourteen Filmfare Awards, which are India’s Oscars. His film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge ran for over one thousand weeks!
So how much is India’s biggest movie star worth? Try $760-million! With that kind of money, he can buy whatever he wants.
In 2008, Khan (and two others) bought a cricket team for $75-million—the Kolkata Knight Riders of the Indian Premier League. Unsatisfied with just one, Khan bought two more cricket teams in other leagues.
4. Sean Combs
You may not think of him as an actor first, but Sean “Diddy” Combs has done a good bit of film work. His performances in Monster’s Ball and Get Him to the Greek are quite memorable.
But Combs has too many other business ventures to be committed fully to acting.
His stunning $825-million net worth comes from a lot of places. The certified platinum recording artist and Grammy winner also owns clothing line Sean John.
If that wasn’t enough, he owns restaurants, a vodka company (Cîroc), Revolt TV, and the aforementioned Aquahydrate, with Mark Wahlberg. Combs is one busy—and wealthy—man.
3. Jerry Seinfeld
There isn’t a more famous comedian in the world (maybe ever) than Jerry Seinfeld. No one earns more money for stand-up performances than he does.
His sitcom, Seinfeld, cumulatively earned him $267-million, according to Forbes. And he kept cashing the checks after the show ended.
Jerry has earned $100-million more in the show’s syndication deals. That, combined with his endorsements and his show, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, make him a $950-million man!
So how does Jerry spend all that money? Well, he owns more than forty Porches. He stores many of them in a $1.4-million garage he had built on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.
2. Jami Gertz
Remember Jami Gertz? If you’re a fan of ‘80s cinema, you know her face. The Lost Boys and Less Than Zero put her on the map. She later co-starred in the 1996 hit, Twister.
But Jami doesn’t act much these days. And she doesn’t need to; she’s worth $2-billion!
Gertz married billionaire Tony Ressler in 1989. He’s the co-founder of private equity firm Ares Management. The couple are minority owners of the Milwaukee Brewers and majority owners of the Atlanta Hawks.
Jami does a lot of giving back as well. She’s among the most charitable celebrities and serves on the board of the Melanoma Research Alliance.
1. Oprah Winfrey
Not surprisingly, no actor or actress is as wealthy as Oprah Winfrey. Though she grew up in poverty, some have called Oprah the world’s most powerful woman.
Her talk show, her magazine, her radio channel. Everything she touches turns to green.
So how rich is the star of The Color Purple exactly? A 2019 report had her net worth at $2.6-billion. She’s the richest self-made woman in America. She’s got sprawling homes all over the U.S., and one in Antigua.
That’s it? What else? Well, Oprah also has a hand-carved tub made out of marble and onyx that custom fits her body. Oh.

Deliverance: Behind-the-Scenes of the Chilling Adventure Classic
The 1970s was a decade of groundbreaking motion pictures. That included the 1972 dark adventure classic Deliverance.
Director John Boorman’s film, based on the novel by poet James Dickey, is as brutal as it is beautiful. It made Burt Reynolds a serious movie star and featured some of the more hard-to-watch scenes ever filmed, even all these years later.
No matter your feelings on Deliverance, there’s no denying its impact or its potency. Let’s take a look behind the scenes of the Oscar-nominated classic.
