Perhaps it’s the stress of being in the spotlight, but for some reason it seems the honeymoon phase of celebrity marriages doesn’t last as long as it does for those of us outside of the Hollywood world. And this list of shortest unions proves just that. Read on to see which celebrity marriages just couldn’t stand the test of time…and by time, we mean not even a year and a half.
25. Katy Perry & Russell Brand: 14 Months
“California Gurls” singer Katy Perry met envelope-pushing British comedian Russell Brand at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009. The two quickly fell in love and got engaged just four months later while on vacation celebrating the new year in India.
In October of 2010, the pair returned to the same country, where Brand popped the question. They wed in the countryside of northern India near the Ranthambore tiger sanctuary. They were married for a total of 14 months, a time frame short enough for comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres to forget Perry had ever been married when the singer came on her show back in 2017.
24. Mike Tyson & Robin Givens: 1 Year
Heavyweight boxing champ Mike Tyson is considered by many to be one of the best athletes in his field, having been inducted into both the World Boxing Hall of Fame and International Boxing Hall of Fame. Tyson was at the height of his career when he met actress Robin Givens.
Givens first broke out into the Hollywood scene after landing a recurring role in the ABC sitcom Head of the Class in 1986. That same year, she met and fell in love with Tyson and the two married in February of 1988. That October, the Riverdale actress filed for divorce from her professional fighter husband. The two were married for a total of one year.
23. Hank Azaria & Helen Hunt: 11 Months
The voice of Moe, the curmudgeon bartender from The Simpsons (as well as myriad other voices on the show), Hank Azaria first started dating Golden Globe-winning actress Helen Hunt in 1994. Azaria spoke about how the two first met, joking he had “auditioned, like everyone else.” Talk about a Hollywood love story!
The couple dated for a total of six years, during which they both appeared in one episode of The Simpsons and in Mad About You. In 1988, Hunt took home an Oscar for Best Actress and got emotional during her acceptance speech when she called Azaria her “beloved.” The two finally wed in 1999 at their home in Los Angeles, but divorced after 11 months.
22. Jim Carrey & Lauren Holly: 9 Months
Hollywood ’90s couple Jim Carrey and Lauren Holly first met during auditions for Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, though Carrey said he’d had his eyes on Holly long before then. According to E! News, the Bruce Almighty actor developed a crush on Holly while watching her on All My Children.
Though Holly didn’t land the part for Ace Ventura, the two got closer while co-starring in the 1994 comedy Dumb and Dumber. Carrey eventually popped the question to Holly while she was on the set of A Smile Like Yours, and they wed in a small ceremony in 1996. Their marriage crumbled after nine months and Holly filed for divorce.
21. Fred Armisen & Elisabeth Moss: 8 Months
Actress Elisabeth Moss first made a name for herself for her role as Peggy Olson on the AMC hit series Mad Men. Over the years, she has earned herself a number of nominations and awards for her on-screen roles in The Handmaid’s Tale, Queen of Earth, and Top of the Lake, to name a few.
In 2008, Moss met former SNL actor Fred Armisen when she made a cameo on the show. The two got together and married in 2009. But their marriage soon soured, and eight months later, Moss filed for divorce. Yet despite the heartbreak that inevitably comes along with divorce, the actress said in a 2014 interview that “it turned out for the best.”
20. Jennifer Lopez & Cris Judd: 7 Months
Dancer Cris Judd received a call in 2000 that changed his life forever. He learned that he had been cast as a back-up dancer for Jennifer Lopez’s “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” music video. In an interview with Oprah, Judd said he knew he would marry the Hustlers star right when he locked eyes with her in their first rehearsal.
Sure enough, he was right. The two had a whirlwind romance, which saw them engaged for one brief month before tying the knot in September of 2001. Their relationship moved quickly, and they ended up parting ways less than a year later.

19. Miley Cryus & Liam Hemsworth: 7 Months
Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus first met Australian actor Liam Hemsworth while on set of the 2010 Nicholas Sparks adaptation film, The Last Song. Like their on-screen counterparts, the two fell in love, and it wasn’t long until they got engaged.
Cyrus was 19 when Hemsworth, 22, put a ring on it in June of 2012. Despite a few rocky moments in their relationship that saw them break up in 2013 for three years, the couple managed to reunite in 2016 and wed in a secret in-home Nashville wedding in 2018. Yet just a few months later, they announced they were splitting for good.
18. Renée Zellweger & Kenny Chesney: 7 Months
Two-time Academy Award-winning actress Renée Zellweger and country music singer Kenny Chesney had a whirlwind romance. They first met back in January 2005 at the NBC tsunami relief fundraising event, “Concert of Hope.” Zellweger apparently had her eye on the singer and planned to pass him a note during the concert.
But according to People Magazine, Chesney’s publicists caught wind of her plan and the singer approached her and said, “I hear you’re trying to pass me a note — don’t let the principal find out.” Four months later, they wed in a surprising Virgin Islands ceremony. They were married for seven months before calling it quits.
17. Drew Barrymore & Tom Green: 5 Months
Beloved actress Drew Barrymore met her second husband, shocker comedian Tom Green, after asking him to appear in her film remake of Charlie’s Angels. She was admittedly a big fan of Green’s show and was thrilled to have him as her on-screen boyfriend, “The Chad.”
Green got down on one knee in July of 2000 while the pair were vacationing in Cabo San Lucas. One year later, they eloped and married in the South Pacific. The couple split after less than a year of marriage, but Green told Oprah in a 2014 interview that there is no bitterness in their break-up, and that he is genuinely happy to know Barrymore is doing well.
16. Chad Michael Murray & Sophia Bush: 5 Months
One Tree Hill stars Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush met on set of the CW drama series in 2003 when it first premiered. And because they played love interests in the show, it only makes sense that their real-life relationship moved at the quick pace that it did.
The two were dating for one year before Murray popped the question in 2004 while they were vacationing in Australia. One year later, they wed at Santa Monica’s Hotel Casa Del Mar, but unfortunately, their union was short-lived. They split five months later but continued working alongside one another until 2009, when Murray quit the show.
15. Charlie Sheen & Donna Peele: 5 Months
While fans can typically recall Charlie Sheen’s marriage to both Brooke Mueller and Denise Richards, few remember — or even know, for that matter — that he has been married a total of three times. His first marriage was to model Donna Peele in 1995.
Sheen met Peele for the first time while on the set of a cigarette commercial. They dated for a total of six weeks before the Two and a Half Men actor popped the question, and the pair wed on his birthday in 1995. But not long after, Peele called it quits and their budding romance came to an end.

14. Bradley Cooper & Jennifer Esposito: 4 Months
Once upon a time, Hangover star Bradley Cooper and NCIS star Jennifer Esposito were happily married. They had both coincidentally wrapped up TV shows they were starring in — Cooper’s appearance in Kitchen Confidential and Esposito’s role in Related — in 2006. One has to suppose the break in their schedules gave them ample time to get to know each other.
They became engaged in October of that year and just two months later, they got hitched in a low-key ceremony in the south of France. But just like their wedding location, their relationship soon headed south. The couple split after four months and Esposito filed for divorce.
13. Janet Jackson & James DeBarge: 4 Months
Time to take a stroll down memory lane. Before her solo career took off, Janet Jackson first met R&B singer James DeBarge when she was just 13 years old. It’s likely that the couple viewed themselves as a match made in music heaven, as they were both part of famous family singing groups.
Despite her father’s plea not to marry so young, Jackson and DeBarge said “I do” in a private 1984 ceremony. The “All for You” singer was just a tender 18 years old at the time of her wedding. But just a few months later, she had the marriage annulled.
12. Colin Farrell & Amelia Warner: 4 Months
When most fans think of a man in relation to Amelia Warner, they aptly think of her current husband, 50 Shades of Grey actor Jamie Dornan, with whom she has two children. But what few people know is that before Dornan, there was Colin Farrell.
The BBC’s Lorna Doone actress started dating the Irish leading man in 2000 when she was 18 years old. Not before long, the pair got hitched in a Tahitian beach-side ceremony in 2001. Farrell even got Warner’s name tattooed around his ring finger to make a binding promise even more permanent. But just four months after their paradise wedding, the two went their separate ways.
11. Nicolas Cage & Lisa Marie Presley: 3.5 Months
Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage walked down the aisle with Elvis Presley’s daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, on August 10, 2002. The lavish ceremony took place in Hawaii, and happened to be around the 25th anniversary of The King of Rock and Roll’s death.
Presley and Cage had first met two years earlier at a birthday party for legendary punk bandleader Johnny Ramone. The flame was ignited, and the couple remained on and off until Cage proposed to Presley with a $65,000 engagement ring two years later. Unfortunately, the marriage didn’t last long, and Cage approached Presley with divorce papers 107 days later.
10. Nicky Hilton & Todd Meister: 85 Days
Hotel heiress Nicky Hilton married New York businessman Todd Meister on August 15, 2004 in none other than Sin City. Childhood friends, the two decided to get hitched in an impromptu 2:30 am Las Vegas Wedding Chapel ceremony, accompanied by pals Lindsay Lohan, Bijou Phillips, and Nicole Richie.
A friend of the couple, Ginny Donahue, told People Magazine that Hilton and Meister shared the same philosophy in life: to live in the moment. And to them, this meant getting hitched after three months of dating. But while they did look at life in the same way, this shared outlook wasn’t enough to keep their marriage alive. The couple annulled their marriage 85 days later.
9. Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries: 2 Months
Keeping Up with the Kardashians star Kim Kardashian and NBA player Kris Humphries first sparked dating rumors in 2010 when the reality television icon was spotted sitting courtside at Humphries’ basketball game. Nearly a year later, Humphries surprised his girlfriend with a gasp-worthy $2 million engagement ring.
It only took three months for the couple to tie the knot in a lavish televised ceremony. But the excitement over the newlyweds was short-lived and they divorced 72 days later. Following their divorce, Kardashian took to the Internet to ensure that unlike some celebrity marriages, hers had not been a publicity stunt and that she really married for love.
8. Eminem & Kim Mathers: 2 Months
Famous rapper Eminem married — and divorced — his school sweetheart Kim Mathers not once, but twice. The two first met at a high school party in 1987 when Eminem was 15 years old and Mathers was 13 years old. Mathers had been living in a youth home at the time with her younger sister. After hitting it off with Eminem at the party, the rapper invited her and her sister to live with him at his mom’s house.
It wasn’t long before Mathers got pregnant with the couple’s first child, daughter Hailie. Four years later, they exchanged vows in 1999, but ultimately divorced in 2001. The pair spent five years apart before marrying again in 2006. Unfortunately, this second marriage only lasted two months before the divorce papers were signed once more.
7. Chris Kattan & Sunshine Tutt: 59 Days
Saturday Night Live alum Chris Kattan first met model Sunshine Tutt at a birthday party in 2005. The two started dating shortly afterwards, and on Christmas Eve one year later, Kattan asked Tutt to marry him. The pair were in Gainseville, Texas at Tutt’s grandmother’s house when Kattan hid a sparkly engagement ring in a present.
The couple married in Yosemite Valley, California in June 2008, and Kattan expressed his love for Tutt in a blog. He said, “She makes me very happy. It feels real and honest and I have more of a continuous smile than I have ever had before.” Unfortunately, however, they split after eight weeks.
6. Chad Johnson & Evelyn Lozada: 41 days
NFL star Chad Johnson and Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada first got engaged in 2010 after less than a year of dating. Recalling her engagement, Lozada said that a jeweler came to her house with a few rings for her to choose from.
She made her choice, all while Johnson was playing Call of Duty with a headset on. The couple ended up marrying in a 2012 Fourth of July ceremony on the Caribbean island of St. Martin. They were married for just a little over a month before Lozada filed for divorce. The VH1 reality TV series they were filming at the time, Ev & Ocho, never got to air because of their swift split.
5. Mario Lopez & Ali Landry: 18 Days
The Extra host Mario Lopez first met model and actress Ali Landry in 1998 at a Miss Teen USA pageant. According to the TV host, he saw Landry’s “Catholic, very driven, ambitious, hardworking — but also charming and innocent” nature to mean she was the perfect girl for him.
The two dated for six years before saying “I do” in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Surrounded by their family and close friends, Landry walked down the aisle at sunset, wearing a glamorous Vera Wang wedding gown. However, the fairytale was not to last, as it only took a total of 18 days before the couple got their marriage annulled.

4. Eddie Murphy & Tracey Edmonds: 2 Weeks
Actor and comedian Eddie Murphy seemed to have shared a strong bond with producer Tracey Edmonds back in the day. When Murphy accepted a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance in Dreamgirls in 2007, he praised Edmonds for “fixing everything that was broken.”
A year later, the couple jetted off to Bora Bora where they had an intimate New Year’s Day wedding. They exchanged vows at sunset and expected to live happily ever after together. But unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned, and they went their separate ways just a short two weeks later. They were reportedly relieved to know their marriage wasn’t legally binding when they returned to the United States.
3. Pamela Anderson & Jon Peters: 12 Days
Pamela Anderson and Jon Peters went from newlyweds to exes in a matter of 12 days. It was the Baywatch actress’ fifth marriage when she tied the knot on January 20, 2020 with the producer of Batman and A Star is Born, whom she had dated briefly some 30 years earlier. It was also his own fifth time getting hitched.
According to the Daily Mail, the two met for the first time in 1989 at the Playboy Mansion. All Peters saw when he looked at Anderson were “teeth and a halo,” and he told her, “In 30 years, our age difference won’t mean so much.” It seems he was right and 30 years later, the pair finally said “I do.” But their union was short-lived and they called it quits shortly thereafter.
2. Carmen Electra & Dennis Rodman: 9 Days
The colorful former Lakers player and Chicago Bulls forward Dennis Rodman wed model and Baywatch icon Carmen Electra in Las Vegas in 1998. The couple had been dating for nearly nine months when they decided to tie the knot on one chilly November morning at seven a.m. at the Little Chapel of Flowers.
Married life wasn’t as satisfying as they had hoped, and Electra filed for annulment nine days after. The model later told Oprah that getting hitched in Vegas is too easy and convenient. But Rodman had something else to say about their brief marriage. He told Page Six in 2018 that if the opportunity even presented itself, he would ask Electra to marry him again.
1. Britney Spears & Jason Allen Alexander: 55 Hours
And now for Hollywood’s shortest celebrity marriage thus far. On January 3, 2004, “Oops…I Did It Again” singer Britney Spears walked down a Las Vegas wedding chapel aisle to say “I do” to her childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander. She was dressed in a white baseball cap and jeans.
The two were married for a record-breaking 55 hours before they had their marriage annulled. Alexander spoke to ABC News following the impulsive nuptials and said that on New Year’s in 2004, Spears invited him to fly to Vegas in her private jet. The two went there as friends, became spouses, and came back as exes.
