HBO has been tossing us a few scraps and tidbits from Game of Thrones Season 6, but we have yet to see a full trailer or know exactly what direction the new, book-less season will go in. So, we take what we are given, and we extract from it what we can. In this case, a behind-the-scenes featurette focuses on the camera operators (of the awesomely named Dragon Unit, Wolf Unit, and more). Their insights are quite fascinating in both a general way (what their job is and how they execute it) as well as specifically with the show (dealing with the rain and muck and dust).
But of course, fans will be looking in between the lines, as it were, to glean any hints about the upcoming season. The most telling moment for me is close to the end of the video, where two young boys are sparring in the Winterfell courtyard. Predictions have been that this could be a young Ned and Brandon (or Benjen) Stark in happier days, accessed by Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) through the Weirwoods. Check out the featurette below:
Through the video feeds in the background of some scenes (yes, we’re to this level), you can also see Dany (Emilia Clarke) wandering in the wilderness with the Dothraki hoarde (Part Deux in her journeys), as well as a meeting between Melisandre (Carice van Houten) and Davos (Liam Cunningham). Hmm, what might those two have to talk about? Resurrecting Jon Snow …?
There’s also a quick shot of Peter Dinklage pacing around as Tyrion, and Daario (Michiel Huisman) and Jorah (Iain Glen) traversing down narrow alleyways, presumably trying to figure out what to do after their queen just took off and left via dragon. (And I didn’t even mention the face-off scene … who are we seeing there?)
It’s all speculation for now, but it’s also all we have to go on. Pray to the old gods and new that we get a proper trailer soon. For now, what are your guesses or eagle-eyed clue-spotting regarding this featurette?
Game of Thrones Season 6 returns to HBO Sunday, April 24th.
