Gary-Shore-Dracula-Untold-interview-slice

Opening this weekend is Dracula Untold.  Directed by Gary Shore, the film stars Luke Evans as Vlad, a character based on Vlad the Impaler.  When the Turkish ruler Mehmet (Dominic Cooper) threatens to take 1,000 boys from Transylvania including Vlad’s son, Vlad makes a desperate play to save them by becoming a vampire.  The film also stars Sarah Gadon, Charles Dance, Art Parkinson, and Noah Huntley.  For more on the film, watch a clip or read 50 things to know about Dracula Untold from our set visit.

The other day in New York City I spoke with Gary Shore about the film.  He talked about what he learned while making his first feature, his first cut, deleted scenes, why he cut out Samantha Barks' character (Baba Yaga) and how it'll be included on the Blu-ray, and more.  Hit the jump to watch.

Gary Shore:

  • What did he learn making Dracula Untold that he wishes he could've told himself at the beginning of the shoot?
  • How long was his first cut?
  • Deleted scenes talk.
  • Talks about why he cut out Samantha Barks' character (Baba Yaga) and how it'll be included on the Blu-ray.  He's a huge Sam Raimi/Evil Dead fan.  He saw the scene as an opportunity to do an Evil Dead type sequence.
