Those who have only seen Gemma Arterton in Clash of the Titans or Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time may not realize that she is a fine actress. I recently saw Arterton in The Disappearance of Alice Creed and she turned in a brilliant performance as the abducted, so it comes as no surprise that she told the Sunday Times (via The Playlist) that she is in the running for one of the biggest gigs around. Among the creative minds that she might be working with are Christopher Nolan and Ridley Scott.  Join me after the jump for quotes and the names of those projects.

Arterton was just cast in The Keys to the Street, which has had production issues of its own. The film is an adaptation of a thriller by Ruth Rendell and was first scripted by Christopher Nolan. While he was originally attached to direct, he worried that the film was too similar to the films he had done at that point (this was a while ago). "I think the script is very good,” he told an unofficial Nolan fan site. “I don’t think it’s what I want to do next. I think another director will do that. It’s a really cool script, but has a lot in common with the three films I’ve made, so it may not be the right film for me to do next."

While revisions have been made to the script, the project seems to be in a limbo of sorts, as it is unclear where the film is set up at the moment. Additionally, it isn’t even clear whether the script will ultimately make it onto the silver screen, as most Rendell adaptations have been made for TV. Despite that, Arterton was enthusiastic about the script (which may or may not be the original Nolan draft), remarking “Why on earth has this film been sitting around?” With Nolan’s script floating around, and Arterton’s casting, there is bound to be news on the project soon.

Meanwhile, Arterton is also attached to Richard E. Grant’s sophomore directorial effort, In with the Outlaws, which is described as a “British cowboy film.” Oh, and she is set to have a meeting with Ridley Scott for his upcoming Alien prequels. "Ridley Scott saw Alice Creed and loved it. He wants me to meet for Aliens: The Remake, or something." While it’s clear she isn’t quite up to speed on Scott’s plan, it is very encouraging to see Arterton get the respect she deserves. Who knows, she might turn out to be a capable replacement for Sigourney Weaver. As always, stay tuned for more information as we get it.
